Is your DS-1 the standard Keeley mod? What all does the mod do? I just scored a DS-1 for $10 the other day...

of a '69 Plexi, modded SD-1 and a GB 4-12 cab. Seemed like a good time to fire it up and see if I still liked it.

and here is the same track with my Metal (no SD-1 though)

They sound kinda close to me.....

As long as I'm not in the mood for something modern the VM does EXACTLY what I want from a Marshall. I use the SD-1, gain on 0 level all the way up. Because I typically play at lower volumes I used the Mid Boost switch in. Steve Dawson(VM designer) said to watch using the bass and Body as this switch uses a lot of the same frequencies. So I typically keep the body at just under 9:00. But yeah, the VM has grown on me. Ashame I can't let it spread it's wings more volume wise. It does sound great cranked up. At the GC I had it dimed for about 2 minutes and the one sales person was looking at me like " hey dick could you turn it down" After a few VH, Dio and Ozzy riffs I did turn it down. I just had to know.

With my HB gtr's I like the mid boost off, but with SC's it sounds good on. I was using my small board that has a DF-7 on it, thats a pretty cool pedal. The VM was in the lower gain mode too.

George, I got a Mod 50 now too! It's really sweet! I'm loving it big
time. Amazing versatility and tone.......crankin' that master up really
works on the Mod 50 as well. Was just downstairs with my LP and
Marshall 412 w/Greenies, EG5 module and master at 3:00

Sometime you'll have to bring it up, I've heard the Randall modular thing and it was cool. Nothing like pushing some air!

The Plexi clip was great, I preferred it over the Wizard clip. The Wizard didn't have the thick snarl that the Plexi had.

I hear you about the loop. That is always one that
makes or breaks a deal for me is that effects loop, gotta have one.
I've been itching to get that old vibe Marshall again, like a Metro
clone or something with a few extras.

I can't live without a loop, too spoiled.

Just curious, which amp is louder? The Plexi
or Wizard? We all know the Plexi's are damn loud, but i keep hearing
that those Wizard's are beyond loud!

Thanks. My Plexi isnt all that loud really. The Wizard is WAY louder though. This one has a buiilt in power boost feature that I NEVER use. Its supid loud with that on!

I think both sound excellent, great recording, what is your setup?

this style, I think the boosted Plexi just takes the edge, personally,
I like the Wizard more, it is less gnarly which I prefer.

Thanks. I run Cubase and have a MOTU 2408MK II interface, an ART dual mic pre and have been using a Beta 57 and Rode NT3 condenser mic. Not sure of the Rode yet, its pretty different.

Yeah mine is the SD-1 and I modded it with a cap change and different IC chip. I got tired of all the bass going away. Now it stays the same on or off. Keeley probably changes alot more stuff on his.

It will hard to convert over to chaps from my very short cut off blue jeans, tie dyed T-shirts, and cowboy boots.......but I will give it a shot. I guess I will need to buy some "poofy" sleeved pirate shirts...........

I actually prefer some of the bass loss with the SD-1's, expecially
with some of the older Marshalls that can be tubby even with the bass
set low.

That drives me nuts. I just want the gain and punch to increase with the tone staying pretty much the same.

On this clip with the boost on, yeah alittle scoopeds probably. Its nice for some things. I dont really like the scritchy top end the boost adds. I should try it with the SD-1

Nope. I hate the way they sound stock, too bitey and raw sounding for me.
