I love my 6505+. Should I get a Stealth 50 watt?

My 6505+ head is killer. Better than the other two I had years ago. I just put a new quad of power tubes and replaced the SG resistors (one was bad). I played the 50w Stealth for a few minutes at GC a couple of weeks ago and it sounded killer too, even at low volume. I do like the idea of a brand new amp and the smaller size and 50 watt power level. I have to admit. I'm tempted. Compared to my 6505+, what would I gain? and what would I lose?

Both amps would be very similar . Though I had the regular 50w 6L6 non stealth and I prefered my 6505+ over it. It was more aparent in a band mix that the 50w didnt sound as big and ballsy compared to 100w power section in the Peavey.

I find the Stealth very similar to the 6505+/5150II, but more low-mid-focused.

If you want a 50 watter that doesn't give you a hernia lifting it, (like the Peavey), you can't go wrong. You certainly won't be disappointed.

The 50 watter might sound great but judging by your musical style I think you might miss the punch of the 100 watter. I would try before you buy.

My 1972 50 watt Marshall doesn't feel or punch like my 100 watters.

Is the Stealth much different from the regular 5153? I owned both a 100w and 50w 5153 and don't think they're that similar to the 6505+. Their was a very prominent cocked wah nasally mids thing going on with both 5153s I had and just a much different overall core tone...to my ears anyway.

Alright. That does it. Year after year I see over and over again the term cocked wah in the mids. Please for the love of God someone record this and post it. Then record a tone that you think doesn't have the cocked wah sound so i can compare for my ears.

MetalheadMike no offense man I'm not attacking you! Im saying this playfully but yet seriously.

Fuck it. 6505+ is up for sale. If it sells, I’ll get the Stealth. If not, I still have a bad ass amp.

I'd like to hear this too. I know what the "cocked wah high gain" sound is but I don't think I've heard 5150's do that inherently.

I think the 50 Watt new Stealth kicks ass. It's my favorite of the bunch.

The EvH 5150 III 6L6 has a mid-range bark. If you don't like it then tough because that's its tone. You won't EQ it out. You're stuck with an expensive toolbox.

It is not a replacement to Peavey. Different amps.

It's nails Gojira not Iron Maiden.

It nails Slipknot not Metallica.

Match the cab. Meaning stay with the 2*12 for the 50W.

Better yet get a Two Notes Torpedo and use the 2*12 in that.

Boost blue channel with a Maxon 808. Red is boosted enough.

Works best with D Standard and lower tunings. Extreme metal.

Not so good for E Standard heavy metal. Peavey is more versatile there especially with an EQ pedal. Standard metal doesn't have that mid-range bark. Extreme metal can have it.

Not a beginner amp. Despite reasonably easy to use features it isn't an easy amp to use because of its tone. That's why not so many extreme metal bands use it. They go with a Mesa Rectifier instead.

Very niche amp IMO unless you have legendary sound engineering skills.

It is. It's more aggressive, punchier, and more low-mid focused.

Well, I ordered a Victory Kraken preamp instead. If that doesn’t do what I want I’ll probably bight the bullet and get the Stealth.

Owned every version. The evh el34 just ruled.
one of my top 3 amps. I had the 100 bucks at stealth head. Just ripped. Did it all. Never played the 50 watt version

Guess let me reiterate. I’ve owned all the 100 watt versions.

I’m on a tight budget. I’ll get one eventually, but I’ll need to find a good deal on it.
Keep an eye on Reverb... couple pop up a week... they last literally hours though people nab them quick.
