Actual gold parts? Gary Holt's DNA in the battery cavity? Each guitar played at every show on a tour?

I can't imagine, even if a small Japanese man hand carved each guitar in a candle lit dojo and then each artist signed it and was hand delivered to each customer, why these are so damn much. I'm obviously out of touch.

They've been like this for a few years now.

What I want to know is WHO THE FUCK IS ACTUALLY BUYING THESE?

Unfortunately even used guitars are going up like mad now - try and buy a BCR, Hamer, Dean, Jackson, Charvel etc from the 80s or 90s now
Yeah but every shidd pants tone era guy is in the part of his life now with maximum disposable income so all those axes, many of which you could barely give away in the early and mid 2000's, bring a fortune now. I should've bought every ugly ass banana headstocked kramer I could find back then with neon pink and green paintjobs but I still wouldn't give anyone any money for that shit.

Unfortunately, those 80s heavy metal style guitars are my favorite guitars of all time

So here's hoping I find a mockingbird or hamer standard or dean z in a trash pile somewhere!

My neighbor back in the day had a blue burst USA mockingbird. It had a well done headstock repair but was still a killer guitar. He was a real connoisseur boomer and a big Santana guy. He had a Boogie Mk 1 from when they were special order only, the BCR, a '64 reverse Firebird in amazing original condition. He fed them into an Art SGX-2000, lol. I probably could've nabbed one of them when he died as I was friends with his son but the values were way too high for me on those instruments then. I can only imagine what they'd run now...

Interesting topic. I will be 58 in August. Haven’t gigged in MANY years and when I was gigging heavily I was piss broke a big part of the time, so I used whatever gear I could afford/beg/borrow and had a great time.

I’ve been fortunate enough to have a good career and be financially stable and for the last 25 years or so, so I’ve been able to buy whatever I want.

Hell, in the past couple months, I’ve bought two new USA ESP M-II’s that I am having a blast playing. Never could have afforded something like these when I was gigging.

I also help out a lot of kids who are trying to get started with gear.

I guess my thought process has pivoted to: I’ve worked hard for the money I have, so if there is a higher end item that I want, I buy it. I don’t flaunt it ….and I can actually play reasonably well (in my preferred style😜), so screw it!

We need to have a situation like when Slash got big and nobody wanted hair metal guitars anymore and was buying up all of the Les Pauls. We should start a trend where some other guitar becomes the new thing. Then all of these prices will drop like panties at a Poison show.

Even with a headstock repair that mock would be well into the "down payment on a house" range nowadays

The firebird wouldn't be THAT bad but still spendy

unfortunately all the guitars that I like are fucking stupid expensive now

Wow, didn't realize they had reached that level. It had the mini toggles for coil splits and everything way back then, was fully loaded.
