I just joined an 80's Hair Metal cover band. I am currently using my room mates DSL100. It's good but nothing awe inspiring. And I will only be able to use it for another month or so because school ends in May. They are playing everything from early Priest and VH to all of the 80's Hair stuff (Dokken, Whitesnake, GNR etc) and a few megadeth and metallisuck tunes. I do like to go to some blues jams so I would like to have a nice clean channel as well.

So far I have thought about:

Marshall Jubilee, Ceriatone Jubilee (although all of the unmodded clips of the C-tone sound nothing like a jubilee)
Splawn Quickrod, StreetRod
Budda SuperDrive 30/45
Titan
Egnater Renegade
Egnater MOD 50/Randall RM modular stuff
Marshall JVM
Voodoo Modded 1987/1959 Jose HG mod
Voodoo V-Rock
Laney VH100R

and many more that I have forgot lol..

My price range is <2K +/- a few

In short: High Gain Marshall overdrive channel, nice clean channel, fx loop, master vol, <2K

What are your suggestions??

SD80 would probably be better choice for 80's stuff than the SD30/45
But really any of those would work.

Also consired a 2203 or 2203x + boost

JCM 800? I think the Egnater Renegade sounds really good, though.

I would say the VH100R would be your best choice, bar-none. That's only my opinion, of course. But, it's cleans are stallar, blues tones can be had, and high gains are phenominal.

The only other I would recommend, is the Peavey JSX. Nice cleans, nice crunch, and brutal high gains.

I'm gonna have to say JVM here. I own a few of the amps you listed and for a cover band the JVM will work great. The loops are excellent and the clean channel is the best clean tone of any hi gain head I have ever owned.

Stiletto Duece II. Does everything you want. Very versatile.

id seriously check out the Laney amps. seriously underatted and can be had dirt cheap.
i practically stole a GH50L and put some TAD EL34s in her and it satisfies all my marshall crunch needs and some.

in comparision to the Marshall DSL50 my friend bought over, it had higher gain, more usable gain, less fizzy gain

Yup, I am going to say JVM as well and wait for the blast of hate directed at me :D

$1200 used for 4 channels with 3 modes on each channel, 2 masters, very good loop, and excellent reverb is a pretty good deal.

I've owned 3 GH's, (2 GH50L's, and a GH100L), and they do shit all over the DSL, (owned 3 of those as well). I like the DSL's versatility over the GH, but the Laney slays it in terms of tone.

I just can't recommend an amp made from recycled blender parts in a Malaysian junkyard. :D Of course you could always cover it up in a nice Koa headshell, kind like putting a fresh paint job on a crappy Chevy.

I can't speak for many of those other amps you listed, but the JVM has my heart. Fucking awesome amp, simple as that! The JVM owns the DSL and TSL so much I don't even know where to start. Never liked them, but I immediately fell for the 205H.

On a serious note, I highly reccomend the Egnater Renegade for what you are talking about, OP.

The JVM would probably be my second choice, but I would go with the 205, two channel jobber. Simpler, but still plenty flexible.

get a metroamp and cascade the volumes/channels, install a post PPIMV, boost the shit out of the front end, and you are in the 80's hair metal territory. i was playing a 50W like this this past weekend and it was just sick. the guy only had $400 in it.

my next choice in your list with the effects loops requirements, etc, would be the laney GH100L or a VH100R.

i actually want to own a GH100TI, the gain tones are sick awsome and very silky - just use a volume pedal as a makeshift channel switching capability and you are in for the tone of your life. its not even a comparison to the DSL/TSL/vintage moderns i have played. such an underrated amplifier.

Thanks for the suggestions dudes, keep' em coming.
I have always thought the VH100R and JVM were the best sounding Do-It-All amps, seems I was right. Volume might be an issue when I move into an apartment but I think the JVM and VH100R have good master vols so that shouldn't be an issue. The Egnater Renegade also has really impressed me a lot.

Now off to the classifieds on a Cameron hunt...

Hey man yuck it up, tomorrow look at your watch around 1:00 cause I will be at Atlantis sucking down some fruity high octane rum dring in 85 degree weather

You had a bad test drive and I put the jvm back in the stock shell anyways

I'd go with a modded marshall. BTW you spelt megadeth wrong.
