I use my 2/12 gb cab all the time with my jvm. it sounds great. just watch the volume and you're good.

I also have a 1/12 mesa roadster cab with a v30 that sounds good as well. it's a little more modern sounding than the gb cab.

I have a 2/12 75 cab as well and for recording it's just meh. it sounds decent in a live room but 75's just don't always shine on marshalls like gb's do imo.

GB + Marshall = TONE HEAVEN!

And that is why I am looking for a higher powered GB type speaker

I'm curious as to how you use a 50W GB cab with your JVM. Did you pull 2 tubes and rebias? Or just make sure you don't turn it up all that loud?

The speakers aren't going to blow without significant volume. The jvm isn't quite as loud as other 100 watters either (some don't like it for that). As long as the ohm load is good you're good... but you do have to watch the volume. I easily take it up to 12/1 oclock without even worrying and that's plenty loud enough for the amp to breathe. my master usually stays around 10 oclock and my channel volumes at 12 or 1 ish and it's fine.

I actually get more nervous running my 84' 50w 800 through the cab. it's so ungodly loud that it just freaks me out. speaker distortion is sometimes desirable... but too much will tear it. you can usually tell when it's pushing too hard.

So I could get the JVM up to gig volume using the 2x12 and not even worry about blowing 2 greenbacks?

Well if you're playing heavy stuff with a ton of bottom cranked significantly then i'd just be careful. If you play loud then there are higher wattage gb choices out there.

You may want to grab a couple warehouse 30's and find a used cab on CL and just drop them in and see if you have any problems. I'd rather blow a $30 speaker than a $100 speaker.

I've never blown one though and i've cranked it pretty good. You just have to be a little more careful.

Not really playing "heavy" stuff. Just 80's Hair and 70's/80's hard rock stuff. I think I would still like to see some of the high wattage gb options anyway. I was thinking like G12-h65's or the warehouse et-65's or maybe an eminence private jack...

I think all of those are decent choices. the private jack does sound good.

Thanks for your help bro. I'll probably go with either the Private jacks or WGS ET-65's..... now I just gotta find a cheap JVM lol..

HAHA! it's funny because jvm's just don't hold their value for some reason. i've seen new ones for 1350 (that was a while ago tho).... and used ones for 1100 ish. I would try my best not to pay 2200 for it. it sounds 2200 good but you'll just lose a lot if you decide to sell one day. they're out there for sure.

I am going used for sure dude, currently trolling craigslist and flea bay. There is one for 1399 BIN now but i'm still looking to see I can find a better deal.

yea.... 14 is too high for used imo. I'd want 12 to 13 at most.

That is what I was thinking.... the search continues. I should be able to get the entire rig (JVM+cab) for around 16-1700 total..... and i'll have some cash left over.

Yeah be patient...you should be able to find one in your price range. Heck I sold one of my backup JVM's for 1200 last year.

Damn I shoulda have been looking for a JVM last year lol.... wanna sell another backup one for 1200? haha

There was a 210 in the classifieds a week ago for 1K, like new ;) dont know if its still there

I'd rather get the 410 because it has the OD1 and Crunch channels as well.....

Haha...nah, I'm down too just one...my main amp. I had some backups when I was doing alot of road work. I've got a 5150III and 800 Reissue...that I'll have Fortin or Friedman mod one day but I'm not in any hurry...I can use those as temp backups. Gonna have to check out the Bloody Murder pedal thanks to Bob...I'm sure it will kill with the 800.

The JVM really spoiled me as I more or less got those other amps because I played the 5150 series for years and wanted to have the newest version and the 800 specifically for mod purposes. Just kinda lost interest in having it done. And I agree...get the 410...having all those options is totally worth it even if you don't use it...the sheer amount of gain and tonal options is incredible. It's weird because I've always liked fairly simple amps...and I basically use OD1 Orange on the JVM but the biggest GAS killer from me is that there are so many options...it's certainly killed my usual boredom with amps. Good luck.

I may have missed it, but what about a used Boogie MKIII Simul-Class amp? Love mine and have used it to cover all the stuff you listed.

I was always curious to why EVH is playing the 5150III, besides the money obviously, especially when he "designed" the amp. It sounds nothing like the classic eddie tone we all love. From the clips that I've heard they just don't scream bad ass Marshall to me.... more soldano-y/american. I was interested in the 5150III and JVM originally but the 5150III never really sounded like eddie unless he was playing it, I think it was the voicing and 6L6's that kinda threw me off.

Hopefully I can snag a JVM soon for a good price but I don't wanna pay too much for a used one. It should cure all of my amp GAS for a while... and then i can let my gas for a charvel san dimas or so cal take over lol...

I dig the 5150III...it's a more refined version IMO plus I've always had a love for 6L6's...great amps and though most of us love Ed's tone I've never tried to copy it.

My biggest beef with going back to Marshall was getting used to the 34's as I have never been much of a fan...even though that's pretty much the THE Marshall tube. My old JMP's that I grew up playing had 6550's and the majority of amps and power amps I've owned since have been 6L6 or 6550 based...once I got a handle on the 34's...I was like okay...I get it...it's only taken me 30 years of playing but I finally get it.
