Love or hate Green Day, Billy Joe Armstrong gets killer tone. Single P90 guitars thru cranked old Marshalls (or modified Parks).

The last album's guitar tracks were ALL single SM57s. No direct to board, no ambient micing, no crazy stuff. So if anyone wants a good reference of what one SM57 sounds like, with a great classic P90 Marshall tone, American Idiot is the album to listen to.

yeah he's always had great tone and the new album sounds even better I only have the single and that song I posted in video (in good quality) and the production is even better.

It's less compressed.....American Idiot is a bit too too compress for my liking, but I love that album and tones

nope....Billie Joe has been using Marshalls from day 1.

his main amp is a JCM800 moded (is the amp you hear in dookie/Nimrod mostly....he later on started using other stuff, blending it with the moded JCM which he always uses.

I believe now he has two MArshalls, the JCM moded and a super lead

I used to love Green Day. Walking Contradiction is a great song, I bought Dookie when it first came out.

Their new stuff just sounds too "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" for me now.

nope....Billie Joe has been using Marshalls from day 1.

Dookie/Nimrod was the Martin Golub 100watter (plexi) iirc.

nah...I disagree with this. Both bands changed their style big time and they now appeal to different audiences as a result

really? I think Billie Joe has one of the coolest, if not THE coolest voice in modern rock I love that guy's voice!
