I still don't get these sellers...

i'm not doing PayPal gift no matter what. If I really trust the buyer I might do a bank transfer because it's easy for me since I work for a bank. As a seller I just price my stuff to net what I want after!PayPal fees and shipping. If someone offers to pay with the gift option I will gladly lower my price but I would never ask somebody to pay for gift and give up their protection. I think seller should just put up
the final all-in price for buyers none of this bullshit that involves X price plus shipping plus PayPal fees. fuck that shit

You're actually at more risk if you accept gift as a seller because the buyer can do a chargeback and you have no chargeback protection.

I understand all sides, but prefer using paypal w/out the gift even when I'm selling and try to price everything accordingly. If someone doesn't like it - that's cool. That's just like carriers. I use UPS Ground - if someone doesn't like it - that's cool I just won't get the sale.

I remember back in the day, when I had to snail-mail money orders......  Talk about trust...

Pretty sure you can't do a chargeback on gift, and that's why some sellers insist on using it.

Yup, those where the days. That was the way to build a reputation. Harmony Central was the main hub back then. Ha ha.

You can do a chargeback on anything paid for with a credit card.

If you pay gift with a credit card, you can do a charge-back through your credit card company. Same could be said with a regular PayPal payment too so the risk really isn't any different.

Demanding PP gift or pay their fees.... Really? it's the price of doing business and getting instant cash people! "Hi i'm selling my $3000 amp but you have to pay me with paypal gift only...trust me!"  If you're selling an amp worth $3k and you can't afford a $30 hit, you sir are a loser. Plain and simple. Stop buying gear you can't afford if that's the case..

Actually it's a 3% fee plus a transaction fee of 0.35. So more like $90.35 total.

But reality is that if you pay via PP Gift, PP charges the buyer that fee. If you pay using regular PP they charge the seller that fee.

PayPal gets their fee from someone.

So yeah, if you want to sell me something without pp protection using pp gift, please take your item down the hall to the next sucker, cuz it isn't me. Figure out how to price your gear with the PP fee included, that's what I do.

Or give the buyer a choice (not that it's any different for the amount paid).

If you pay with paypal gift, you (as the payer) only get hit with a fee if you use a credit card. If you pay from a bank transfer, there is no fee to either party.

I will rarely do PayPal gift unless I personally know someone or really trust them and it's a smaller item.

However as a buyer I will always add 3% but I'm not going to overpay.

It's more about the security than the money for me.

The risk is different because PayPal will help you dispute a chargeback if you paid the fee. If you did not, then you lose by default.

A half-hearted effort at best.  If someone claims his card was fraudulently used, there's really nothing paypal can do/say to the credit card company that the seller can't do/say. In the end, paypal will hit the seller either way.

Agreed. It's the cost of doing business. Be smart and figure that into your price, like everyone else who does business with cards. I don't like the fees either, but if I'm accepting paypal as payment, it's the price of using the service. If I don't want the fees I should ask for some other form of payment.

In fact, that's what gets me the most. Someone using their services and then trying to use the gift-payment as a way around those fees is outright stealing from paypal. (No, just because they're a big company doesn't make it not stealing.) That sends up massive red flags to me about their ethics when it involves money, buying, selling, etc.

There are a number of items I've seen listed in around here since joining that I've simply skipped once I see "PP gift" listed as it indicates to me that someone I don't know personally wants to take my money with no protections for myself and then send my their item at their convenience, or maybe not since I have no recourse. If they're so concerned about the fee and think no recourse is perfectly fine, then they can send me the gear first and I'll mail them a check after I receive it. Same deal.

TRUE! PayPal is scum. I switched all of my businesses over to Stripe. It's too bad Stripe doesn't to C2C transactions too.

Asking folks to give up protection & use PP Gift is just lame. Asking them to pay for your fees is also lame. If you're using PP as a seller, the 3% fee is the cost of doing business. Stop being cheap broke ass bastards

Let's support big corporates that take our hard earned money man, yes.

Paypal=eBay

Ebay fees -Paypal fees- taxes on money earned to pay said fees.

Wanna sell the item? Here we go again!!!!

They make multiple amounts of money on the same item time and time again, while you might take a little hit selling it!!!!

What the fuck is wrong here?

Lol, exactly.

I can understand people wanting protection when buying, so if you want protecion, YOU buy it. In a sense it is like car insurance, the buyer pays for it, not the seller.

We can argue all we want, there are pros and cons on each side.

The thing that frustrates me is we all get ripped off in the end, buyer and seller. We should all be able to sell our gear within ourselves and not being charged for it. Fuck, i can feel my money being pulled out of my pockets daily.

When will it stop
