Pretty sure you can't do a chargeback on gift, and that's why some sellers insist on using it.

If you're selling an amp worth $3k and you can't afford a $30 hit, you sir are a loser. Plain and simple. Stop buying gear you can't afford if that's the case..

If you pay gift with a credit card, you can do a charge-back through your credit card company. Same could be said with a regular PayPal payment too so the risk really isn't any different.

The risk is different because PayPal will help you dispute a chargeback if you paid the fee. If you did not, then you lose by default.

A half-hearted effort at best.![]()
If someone claims his card was fraudulently used, there's really nothing paypal can do/say to the credit card company that the seller can't do/say. In the end, paypal will hit the seller either way.

Agreed. It's the cost of doing business. Be smart and figure that into your price, like everyone else who does business with cards. I don't like the fees either, but if I'm accepting paypal as payment, it's the price of using the service. If I don't want the fees I should ask for some other form of payment.
In fact, that's what gets me the most. Someone using their services and then trying to use the gift-payment as a way around those fees is outright stealing from paypal. (No, just because they're a big company doesn't make it not stealing.) That sends up massive red flags to me about their ethics when it involves money, buying, selling, etc.
There are a number of items I've seen listed in around here since joining that I've simply skipped once I see "PP gift" listed as it indicates to me that someone I don't know personally wants to take my money with no protections for myself and then send my their item at their convenience, or maybe not since I have no recourse. If they're so concerned about the fee and think no recourse is perfectly fine, then they can send me the gear first and I'll mail them a check after I receive it. Same deal.

maybe...but it's also thier equipment. if you want it - pay what they want or move along. i can list a used fork on reverb for 5 million dollars if i want to - it's my fork. if you dont like it go buy a used fork somewhere else if they're so easy to come by - since it's a buyers market lol
