I really regret letting this rig get away. At the time I wanted to get away from rack gear and simplify my life. When I go back and listen to this clip I still feel seller's remorse. I know tone is subjective from person to person. But to my ears after listening even 10 years later I should have been satisfied. I have acquired some great gear since then so I can't kick myself too hard for selling. I Know I'm not alone... and I'm sure most of you guys have some gear selling regrets too. :aww:

Even though you have a Mark V ?
I can't say that i regret selling my Quad and Mark iv, because i don't.
The constant tweaking (inconsistent tone almost every time) won't be missed.
Maybe some regret for the Studio pre that i bought and sold twice..

If only Mesa could build a Triaxis Reborn.. I'll be the first in line.
They haven't discontinued the 2:90 yet, so we might have a chance :)

Thats active pickups ? sounds great

I remember when the Tri-Axis was released - it was leagues ahead of the available midi rack preamps and has really stood the test of time. Each colored ‘mode’ sounded qualitatively different from the others - where other preamps seemed to have 128 presets of a little more or a little less of the exact same basic tone. A very good friend had the Tri-Axis / 2:90 rig and it just killed.

I don’t understand: markV covers practically every sound of the triaxis...

Pairing the Triaxis with the 2:90 is what really makes it shine. The Deep , Half Drive and Modern modes of the 2:90 added a lot of depth to your dirty tones. And Triaxis clean tones are about as pristine as it gets.

I would like to get a Triaxis for the fun factor but always preferred heads. Now I have a Mark V and a Quad pre and feel I have the best of both worlds. The V does sounds that a Triaxis can’t, certain dirty clean and classic rock tones and the Quad brings it in the classic Boogie metal tones that I feel it does better than the V. Using the V as power is icing on the cake.

Looks like you have the Marshall bases covered well. I’d sell the EVH and Boss and pickup a Tri/2:90.
The green r1 and L2 green will cover Mark IV.

I wanted a triaxis for the longest time. But went down the path of a getting a Roadster as my first real amp then added an Axe Fx II and eventually a Mark V. The triaxis always seemed great on paper, and I would be second in line for a reborn version since first spot has already been claimed. But in the Axe II and now the Axe III, the triaxis models sit behind the IV and IIC+ models for me. The IV and IIC+ models also beat out the lead channel in the V for me when comparing with a reactive load box, which is why I eventually got rid of it. But I regret not being able to keep the V around because I never appreciated how good and irreplaceable channel 2 was until I did not have it anymore. Crunch in particular was my favorite, Mark I was great too, and tweed from channel 1 is also special. I have not found any close enough replacements to these tone in anything that I have tried in the Axe, real amps, or in through demo videos (although I would love to try to see if one of the Wizards could do the trick). So give channel 2 some love from me and tell her that I miss her and am sorry for taking her for granted.

I had one too and kind of broke my triaxis so I sold it. It was version 2.0 and I had it modded by Mesa to take the Fat Mod out. I got a good price on the triaxis and 2:90 and don't really see them that low anymore. I kind of regret getting rid of them now.

I had a Triaxis/290 rig about 10 years ago. I do miss it. I ended up going down the modded Marshall path, but there is definitely something special about the Mesa tone. I may pick one up again down the road.

Thank you.

The Triaxis is a great design and has tons of great basic sounds, but those preset graphic curves that fade in more on top of the sound as the V gets deeper is a pretty curious implementation. It should have had a separate control for the mix fader, for sure, or just had it in serial like every other Mark design. I see why both Petrucci and Hetfield used outboard EQ sections with them, for example, and if I ever get one again I'll probably get closer to what I want with a parametric EQ too.

Ive just finished getting setting up a triaxis rig. I really dig it. I've incorporated an Axe Fx which allows the EQ. Getting killer tones very happy with it. The Coliseum 300 doesn't hurt either!

I remember driving 3 hrs to chuck levins music store in Maryland to play the just released triaxis with a mesa 2-90.Definitely preferred it way over most else that was out there at the time for midi preamps.Ive been thru a few tri's over the years..Currently running a v2 tx4 w/ eq in loop into a strategy 500 and it crushes..Would love to try a 300 power amp too.
