I want a Les Paul

I keep wanting to buy a basket case LP and have a floyd put on it. Although I am starting to see the floyded ones going for the low $2k range, which isn't bad. I never got over the studio's lack of binding, just bugs me on some primal, lizard-brained level. I had one for awhile, just never felt like a 'real' LP to me. I'm a horrible Gibson snob I guess. Welp, back to the P90 special :D

I struggled with the binding thing for a bit too but got over it when I realized if I can get a nice studio I can probably afford another guitar too. Considering I generally beat the pulp out of my guitars (and sometimes take a saw to them), I'd probably end up knocking the binding off somehow anyway. :)

From what I gather binding falling off is a common problem. Rumor is that is where the studio came from. People dug the look of a vintage standard that the binding fell off of.

Funny Pete the Axcess is what initially got my LP juices going so I started looking at them only to realize I have 30 other dual hum Floyded guitars. Since I'm going for a LP shape to just get a regular Gibson one. I can't believe it took over 30 years for me to find out I like them....I want a black beauty custom now.

Oh? I was mostly joking but maybe there's some truth to me eventually knocking it off anyway.

I like the Gold Top guitars out of the ones you put links to by far...

I think I'm much more interested in Les Paul Jr. type guitars though - stripped down, one P90, bridge/tailpiece in one... Not getting anything right now anyway, but... that is what is interesting me for some reason...

Was playing my Tele through this cool "country style" profile on the Kemper last night and I was diggin' the combination of the single coil and neck P90 at the same time... makes me think I might like a P90 bridge...

Bob,

Get this one!:

Yeah, I dig that gold top too but am torn because I love bursts also.

The P90 loaded LPs are appealing, but I'm going to first see how I like whatever LP I end up with and also ensure I dig the PX-100s, which so far I do. Assuming both go well I may end up with another Studio loaded with P90s.

I'll have to bring the Viper over sometime so you can check it out now that it's dialed in.

In the early 90's I had one of these Studio Standards from the 80's & it was a kick ass playing & sounding Les Paul. My superficiality could never get over the dots instead of trapezoid inlays so I sold it for like $600 in the late 90's for a Standard that cost me twice as much and didn't play near as well. I kick myself in the ass about that now as it seems the Studio Standards seem to fetch a decent price these days.

Hey Bob how's the hunt been going, found a decent one you like?

What about Bonamassa Studio LP new at 1399 but not sure if still made.

If OP found one used at 900-1000 ?

Any love for these?

Well, I've got cash and am waiting for my secret agent to have the time to go through a load of Studios and also Signature Ts. If a magic Studio is found I'll probably go with that. If this doesn't pan out I'll pack my pocket with cash and head out to LA.

Fortunately, I'm not in a big hurry because I've got my home studio in pieces right now because I'm moving to a new room.

GET ON IT BOB!!!! This thread's 4 pages long man... It's time

Enjoy the hunt. I've ALWAYS got a soft spot for Lesters. Always.

I'm really hoping to get a magical studio because that will leave cash for another nice guitar of some kind... or, lots of beer and a piece of junk.

I love them and have owned many...you can't go wrong with that setup. That said, there's something special about a P90 in the neck position (pun intended ;) )...it's such a fat sound. My cheapo LP Special that I just got sounds amazing...it's a refin away from being an awesome guitar.

I still want a white SG Jr though...one of the coolest looking axes ever IMO.

Well what a coincidence! My secret agent just called. He found me a kickin' 60's studio tribute, gold top. It ships today.

But seriously... Wildwood Guitars, they'll definitely treat you right.

Giddyup!

Delivered... this thing plays great and sounds fantastic acoustically. Will hopefully get a chance to plug it in today or over the weekend (my studio is all over the place because I'm in the middle of a move).

This is one of the tributes so it doesn't have a high gloss nitro finish, which of course makes it even easier for me to beat this thing with extreme prejudice and not worry about it. I love the finish on the back. Exposed Mahogany... very nice.

Nice find! Those tributes look sweet  I love goldtops with the black hardware. I also really like the look of the exposed Mahogany, I think it looks better than the glossy back.
