I wonder if a 50% tariff on copper will make things more expensive?

Long term, tariffs can certainly be a good thing. We have a long history of farming out expendable shit to get cheaper prices. That dominoes into less industry inside the US and ultimately cheap immigrant labor as well.

Making drastic changes to both tariffs and the labor force at the same time is for sure a political pony show, and lacks a bit of foresight imo, as there will be an unknown amount of time between when we burn our bridges and when we can build our own bridges so to speak

The consumer, but it protects our industries by making imports less competitive and they are competitive at all mostly because the source nations exploit the worker. Even democrats like Barack Obama recognized you can't just let the chinese undercut us on everything which is why he chose to tariff chinese tires, which were negatively impacting the American tire industry.

Yeah, but if it only cost domestic consumers other countries wouldn’t give a fuck about being tariffed. It cost their companies and hence their tax base plenty. Enough that they will come to the table to deal in order to avoid them.

I think our leaders are obligated to enact tariffs and part of the reason we are where we are is because not enough tariffs were enacted post WWII to protect American industry.

That said, Trump is doing wonders for my investments, after 40+ years of working I resigned from my job this past Monday, 7-July, several months earlier than I planned...all thanks to Trump's policies.

Markets had another good day today.

Deporting invaders continues.
