Please do yourself a favor and check out the WGS HM-75

I am one of the few who like 75's around here and I needed one to pair up with a Hellatone 60. I'm still trying to pick a speaker selection for my Morris amp. I thought I would give the HM-75 a shot. Well I just got it loaded up and played with it for about an hour. First, in a closed back 1x12 to get the true feel of the speaker. And then paired with the Hellatone 60 in my Avatar Contemporary.

I swear it is exactly like a GT-75 that has the upper end peak/fizz completely wiped away. If your beef is with the mids of the GT-75, then you still will probably not like this speaker. However, if it is the peaky high end and the flat sound at low volumes that bug you, then you will LOVE the HM-75. I wasn't expecting much to be honest, but I am shocked out how much I like what I'm hearing. Seems to be about the same efficiency as the GT-75 because the Hellatone overpowers it a bit. But that's good because I wanted the V30 to dominate my sound. Really sounds good at low volumes just like the Vintage 30 (unlike the GT-75 and G12H30 IMO).

Just thought I would toss this out there for those interested. I have used every WGS speaker and I believe this is the best yet. This is exactly what I expected to read when the first HM-75 review came out.........that it miraculously cured all the cons of the GT-75. But I have to say its true. Just don't expect more mids because they have kept that character intact.

Good stuff. I always liked 75's with JCM 800/900/DSL. They tame a bit of the fuzziness from those amps, whereas V30's sound a little too raw and bright with them to me. Although, that Slash cab with V30's in that clip that was posted a few weeks ago sounded great with that Marshall. I haven't played enough speakers to know what ones sound good with what amps. I need to just buy a bunch of cabs with scumback M75's, H30's, g12k100's and gt75/V30 x pattern and I'll be happy.

Cool ive been wondering about them. Glad to hear they worked out for ya. Ill give em a whirl next time im needing some t75's.

I don't like mixing speakers in a cabinet so I decided to try two HM-75s in my Marshall 212.
Much better than Celestion T-75s. Rich low end, smooth highs and better mids. Nice punchy mids that are a little neutral.

Mixing speakers seems like a bad idea if you are being mic'ed. The mic will only grab one speaker so the effect of mixing speakers is lost. I know a lot of guys mix them here, it must be for at home or situations where the amps are not mic'ed.

LOL.

Haha. Any club we played would only allow one Mic.

These new WGS 75s are amazing.
I like them as much as the Retro 30 and ET 65 mix but I think I would prefer a 212 with these 75s!

That was/is why I've been trying to mic up my cabs from a distance (ie room mic'ing)- so they capture the sound of the whole cab (and thus the mixed sound of the different speakers), rather than close-mic'ing one speaker in the cab.

The only way I've partially got around it was to put two close microphones on the cab, on opposing speakers.

 Then you bring your own tiny two channel mixer.

Edit: bad example but you get the idea.

I was really into Groove Tube amps! I almost bought the preamp but I ended up buying the Groove Tube Solo 75. That was my first boutique amp, it was so expensive in 1994. Later on I traded it for the GT Soul o 150, that'r when they changed the name. That amp was loud as hell! The clean channel was incredible and the drive channel had a pretty heavy sound. I used it with the Groove tube speaker emulator II and used a Carvin FET 800 power amp. I recently scored GT 75 last year for $800 and they used to sell for $2,700 for the 75 and $3,000 for the 150 quite expensive for 1994.

Asking a soundguy at a gig to use 2 mics on your cab is like asking him to split the Red Sea like Moses.

These are nice speakers, but for me WGS speakers always struggle to cut a band mix!

I get the idea and know how to do it but it seems like a little more work than it's worth for the club shows I have done. I quit running stereo because the sound guys were too stupid most of the time to pan on side to the left and the other to the right....

I've got a 212 with a veteran 30 and an HM 75 and they do mix well

Lost thread bump......

I love stock G12T-75s, they remind me of less mid rangy G12-65s. The WGS version is also pretty great. They mix well with Celestion Vintage 30s.

I actually like the old G12T75's that came in the JCM800 Cabs back in the early 80's. I have 1960A 4x12 that I use with an 83 2203 w/6550's and it will kill small farm animals within 1/2 radius lol

I agree, I have some late 80's 75's, and they are way more neutral than the current version.
