If you guys had a grand on a new ax, which would you go for

Why doesn't Charvel make more guitars with 1 5/8th nut width? I like Ernie Ball Axis but wish it had bigger frets and the body is a little wierd.

I'd check out the Schecter KM-6. Seems like it would be a nice ride.

Pro Mod is 2 humbucker without pick guard, So Cal is 2 humbucker with pick guard, so you can change it to hum single single if you want.

EVH is basically 1 hum Pro Mod, yes.

The newest stripe series with the circles on it isn't as well known to the general public if you're concerned about the EVH connection, although any guitar player of our generation would know what it is...
Don't you think the neck is different? I had a bumblebee, liked it.....but different feel to me than the Charvel. Not way off, but I like the Charvel better. I bought the EVH new and I'd still take a clean USA or MIJ Charvel used over a new striped.

I do think the Charvel is better, but not by a whole lot. He said he wanted hum/single/single too, so I think the SoCal is really the only choice, and I would buy an American one (used of course, since they no longer make them) over a MIJ or MIM (I have both a MIA and MIJ one, and the American one is better IMO). There's a guy here on RT selling a plum colored MIA So Cal for 1500 if the OP can swing that...

Yeah I saw that...problem with that price is you can buy a used Charvel Custom shop for 1500. I sold mine for 1500 a few months back...it was mint. I do like the MIA better than MIJ also, just a tiny bit.....

I agree, but this guy sounds like he needs a guitar now, and he wont find a hum/single/single Charvel custom shop out there quickly...I'd buy the USA So Cal...LOVE mine

There's also a Chlorine PC-1 Jackson with the ballsack headstock for 1500 I think...hum/single/single

I'd consider continuing to save up till I could get an Anderson.

There is also the Adrian Smith Jackson, but more than 1K... but it's already hum/single/single.

Tom is a great guy who makes great guitars, so it pains me a bit to say... I prefer the Charvels I've played to the Andersons I've owned... They're just different.

There's always the Musikraft route also instead of Warmoth, they have Pro Mod neck specs and Charvel body specs...

I priced out a body with all electronics from Warmoth..
Just over $900.00

Basically a Adrian smith Jackson.

White alder body, black pickgaurd, HSS, Floyd, one vol, one tone, side input jack, strap locks, contoured back heel.

Musikraft stuff is more Charvel than Warmoth...trust me on this, I've done both. And they're in NJ, so closer to you in NY. You get 10% off if you have the parts shipped to MJT Guitar Finishes for the paint work, and MJT paints in nitro and they can relic (if you like that) or just do an as new finish...

I've never looked into musikraft. I'll check em out in a bit and see what it comes out to be. Totally forgot about them, thanks.

If resale is a concern, then stay away from parts guitars. They can be amazing....but you don't get shit for them if you try to off it. But I've played some very nice ones, comparable with any superstrat I've owned.

You should check MJT. Can get a finished body for $375 and a finished Musikraft neck from them for $375 as well

I've bought 3 Charvel USA San Dimas guitars for well under $1,000 and IMO they're the best value for money out there as far as a hot rodded Superstrat type guitar goes.

This. I'm telling ya, just be patient and wait for one to come up in the classifieds here or elsewhere. I like my MIJ SoCal but the USA neck is just a little bit better IMO. And if you need to sell you'll get your money back. There is a plum USA SoCal here but he wants almost used custom shop money for it..1250. But it looks new....

There are 3 US Charvels on GC.com. One is a black pointy, in Orange CT for 899. The other is a white 2008 pro mod in NJ for 1099. Custom shop at Edina Mn (I've played that one) for 1399. So some options....
