The second clip was nice, but I still didn't care for the latter part with added gain.
I have come to the conclusion that digital modeling sounds best with clean type tones. Once any real gain is added, it tends to sound processed. Of course there are exceptions to everything...![]()
Well put, I agree!
Yeah, I really like all the clean clips I've heard so far, but I still haven't heard a distorted tone that I like. All the clips seem too smooth not enough hair.
Did anything come of the CCV day on Monday? Any new clips from Mark on the CCV and Friedman?King Guitar":2ghbfaxz said:katsumura78":2ghbfaxz said:Bump. Any updates on the Axe II ?
Pete Thorn came by yesterday and borrowed the Axe 2 to make some clips which will be up soon. Mark Day has it today and is writing patches for it.![]()
I consider "give" a feel thing which would be unnoticable in a clip...what are you referring to?glpg80":11r14n9p said:it has no actual real tube amp "give" - just sounds overly processed.

As for "give" from a feel perspective, my Ultra had plenty of it...it responded dynamically in a very similar manner to the real thing, especially with aftermarket IRs. That said, many "modern voiced" tube amps have no give either...two that come to mind are the Uber and the VHT UL...very stiff and untubelike in my experience (but they sound great in the right application...just like an Axe IMO).

I'm talking about power supply sag which is what it typically referred to as "give" with the vintage amp crowd...not sure what you're getting at, but I'm quite sure that my assumption remains "useful" given what I was referring to.glpg80":1menfz2q said:rupe":1menfz2q said:I consider "give" a feel thing which would be unnoticable in a clip...what are you referring to?glpg80":1menfz2q said:it has no actual real tube amp "give" - just sounds overly processed.

sounds like its on 10 all the time, IE no dynamics. and yes you can very well tell through a clip. every axe-fx or modeling anything has never had true dynamics. as a matter of fact, one of dave's modded marshalls acted like there was a substancial ducking attitude to the give of the amplifier contributing to the sound of no dynamics. James Lugo himself said this right here on rig-talk. Dave replied that i was exactly how it sounded/played in real life. so your assumption that you cant tell through a clip is useless, you very well can tell, you just have to be able to hear it based on what you are seeing from the user playing the instrument to make that call. without any experience in feeling a tough fighting amplifier vs. a loose non-dynamic amplifier, you wouldnt really know what to look for in general so that is a mute point over a text based BBS forum.
i like an amp that gives a fight with high gain. but i also like an amp that plays itself ALA the axe-fx II or the 5150 III for solo tracking, it makes it so much easier to play without loading it down with a shit ton of effects.
Are moose in heat this time of year? I.e. Run them both bone dry, Dials at noon.
Axe into the power section of the Cameron...
Or is it not meant to work like that?
Just asking, not being a smartass.
