Maybe a dumb question, but I am going to ask anyhow.

What does afwayu mean or stand for?
"god of fire" :worship:

That's funny, he agreed to sell it to me a couple weeks ago! Said he didn't want PayPal and wanted to get the cash from me next time he was in town. Don't know why he would be bitching?! Maybe he should talk to me about it instead!

Maybe not "bitching" more like...."I'm never gonna get it back :aww:"  maybe before he agreed to sell it... I don't know.

Hey I broke down and ordered a Solution yesterday. It'll go in my ESP Horizon with a '59 in the neck. I almost got the Warpig too because I was ordering a BK Painkiller for my SC250, but decided to hold off and see how I like the Solution.

Cool. You I think you will really dig it.

I recently replaced my neck pick-up in my telecaster with a joe-barden. I never use the bridge pick-up so i didnt bother with it. And man, it freakin screams, I wish I would have done that years ago!

I ordered a 2nd Degree Blackbelt set for my LP Custom...hopefully it will match up well.

My girlfriend ordered me a set of MCP hell babies for my birthday!

I changed my mind about what I wanted 100 times and wound up choosing the hell baby over the nuke, solution, and torque. I didn't really base my decision on anything other than not too many people have them, and I've heard it was a "sleeper". Just gambling I guess. :scared:

I figure even if I don't like em in my metal Ibanez RG1570 guitar I'll try em in some of my other guitars as I m sure they'll sound great either way!

Once i get the RG sorted out I wondering about my Strat and my ESP EC-1ooo. thinking the 2nd degree Blackbelts or Afwayu in the esp and the Torque, Nuke or Solution in the American standard Strat, in fact my Strat can fit three humbuckers maybe all three???
who knows? what do you guys think?

This is the first time in my life that pickups were part of my GAS, been using active EMGs for a decade but these days they just sound anemic to me. they were great when I couldn't play and needing the added compression to cover my slop but these days I'm just not hearing the emotion coming out that I know I am putting in and that seems pretty stifling at times.

Gonna miss the low output impedance though! Ill probably experiment with some jfet/mosfet buffers also.

Excessive bass ruins a lot of pickups for me. I almost pulled the trigger on a set of MCP's (Afwayu), but after talking it over with Wade, I figured it had too much bass for my liking. That was the first question I was asking a couple months ago. I don't care how killer a pickup sounds, if it's got booming bass, I can't stand it.

I wouldn't say "booming" just a little more bottom heavy than say an EMG 81 or Gibson 500 like I have in most of my other guitars. I totally dig the Afwayu.

The EMG 81 is kind of my reference pup for bass response. Tone aside, I prefer my pups to have no more bass than that pup has in it.

have you played a BK nailbomb or painkiller? seems they would be up your alley.

I thought about them before, but Tim said they were both more bass heavy than the 81.

Im not really sure there Is a pickup with as little bass as an 81. they are really thin sounding. in fact they have a resonance very similar to a single coil pickup if you can believe that.

If you are happy with the tone of your EMGS but just looking for more dynamics/less compression try the 18 volt mod, you can do it without modification to your guitar and it does add dynamic back, be sure to evaluate the difference on your clean channel where it is much more easily heard. (see diagram 1)

Also, a simple resistor/capacitor network on the jack of the guitar can roll off bass at any frequency you desire. (see diagram 2: V in is the signal from the guitar V out goes to the jack. bottom line is ground wire .)

one resistor and one capacitor is all it takes. you will lose a bit of signal but nothing terrible.

one 4.7k resistor and one capacitor, choose value from this chart:

Capacitor Corner Freq.
0.047uF / 720 Hz
0.1uF / 339 Hz
0.22uF / 154 Hz
0.47uF / 72 Hz
1.0uF / 34 Hz

take the signal wire off of your jack and connect the capacitor between that wire and the jack.

between
the capacitor and the jack add the resistor. one end there the other end to the jack ground tab. now you can tailor the bottom end of any pickup to your liking.

I say start with 154 and 339, 720 is like a TS-808.
