Interesting concept...Celestion Peacekeeper: A Revolutionary New Attenuating Speaker for Guitarists

I was reading that the person who designed that recently left and went to work for Eminence.
IIRC they are responsible for both speakers in that video.
Cool concept for those in need.

I might get a pair. I have a couple Orange 1x12 cabs I want to try them in.

Most of my amps are more about power amp overdrive.

Ironically the two amps I am using most these days is a 2 channel Mesa Triple Rectifier @ 150watts and Fryette GPDI IR @ 1 watt.

Why is it gimmicky? Same reason someone would use an attenuator...drive the amp harder without the volume. Especially NMV amps.

Attenuators and even reampers are still a compromise. On paper, making the speaker the attenuator is the least invasive solution. I'll be curious to see if it translates real world.

Look. With a nmv amp, i somewhat can see attenuation. However, outside of that, I have never had an issue with getting tones out of an amp.

I feel like this is not directed at superlead or jtm marshalls. I feel like this is marketed to the guitarist that feels like a 50 watt or 100 watt amp is too loud. I personally dont want to play less than a 50 watt class a/b ever for high gain. 150 watts is my personal favorite, but a good 50 watter still feels like an amp.

Also, i always want volume with a tube amp..

I would imagine they trialed it with A/B comparisons before releasing it to the masses..............

I also feel like whatever tone you can get out of an amp, if I can hear your pick hitting the strings over the amp, you are not playing loud enough. This should really be obvious..
This can be tough with hollow body and semi hollow body guitars. My Epi Casino is very loud acoustically.

I am glad celestion is releasing the peace keeper, its another way to keep volume in check, another tool in the tool box. My issue is the price, at ~$250 its priced in the celestion alnico range and not in the same price range as their other ceramic speakers. Considering you can get a formal lotus 60watt attenuator for $330, a $250 speaker seems very pricey to me.

I wonder if the same issues apply to driving this speaker as you have when you use an attenuator and the Fletcher Munson curves come into play.

I'll be curious what the YT review videos sound like once these get out there in the wild, maybe we will be nicely surprised..........

Fletcher munson is exactly why one should play loud.

I will forever be baffled by this whole line of thinking

Nothing beats straight in.. attenuator or reactive reamping def changes the tone but what does the mic hear? Worth it to get the volume up and still have speakers moving with your Superlead attenuated but on 8. Attenuating the speaker I would think is going to change that because the speaker won't be working as hard. Or maybe it still will be, just putting out less volume? Remains to be seen but they have been sitting on this one with very little details since it was announced. I don't want to see some boomer in sandals give me a 30 second clip of himself playing a few chords, I want some old greasy rocker to hook it up to an amp I would play and take it through it's paces. Include a normalized recorded track so we can see how it would fit in a mix. I swear the marketing departments in all these companies are clueless sometimes.
