If you're not locked in to Marshalls, check out the Krank Revolution. I played a 5150 for 12-13 years, and was totally blown away by the awesome cleans, and the clarity and power of the lead channel. I do al ot of different things musically and have found it to be very versatile as well.

You're going to get a ton of Mesa MkIV reco's here. Tough to argue. I'd add the Egnater Mod50 to the list with the appropriate modules. I have the Randall RM100 and if you pick the right modules you can go anywhere from Fender to Vox to Plexi and Soldano with great results.
If you wanted something a little different then there's a lot of noise about the Cornford amps, specifically the RK100 and Hellcat heads.

For some amps that have great cleans and high-gain tones, check out a Mesa Mark III or Mark IV. Engl amps also have great great clean and high-gain tones. I LOVE my Blackmore! Super simple and sounds great!

Welcome aboard.
+100000 on ENGL Amps.
I don't know what your budget is but the ENGL SE is where it's at Cleans are absolutely stunning and the gains are just as beautiful.

The Mark IV is a great amp, and yes it will come very recomended on this board. Rockin Robin has a Mark IV combo in the store. I believe they want $1100 for it.
GC North has a Carvin Legacy 2x12 combo. You could run it on top of your current cab. I think it was listed at $650. I can tell you first hand that the Legacy is a monster of a rock amp. Both channel are really nice, and it takes pedals better than any amp I've owned. They also have a red stripe Mark III.
The Marshall DSL is another option, although I'm not really a fan of this amp. I've also seen a few Mesa DC amps around town for decent prices. The DC amps are really nice. I'll probably pick one of these up within the next few years.
Great Southern Music is an Orange dealer... last time I was in there they had several heads, Rocker 30, Rockerverb 50 and AD40. But bring your check book. lol!
What band do you play in? There are a few of us from Houston here. I try to make it out to formites' shows when I can. Good luch with the amp search.

If you need versatility with a great clean an Engl Savage 120 or a Blackmore would be good, but I think the JVM would be hard to beat. 4 channels with 3 modes on each, plus digital reverb and a footswitchable fx loop. If you like the tones, I'd say that's your amp. I think the JSX can be pretty versatile to though.
I TRIED to demo that Legacy combo at GC and its totally fried. Save yourself a trip.![]()
Everlone":b329f said:You definitely won't be able to try before you buy with the Engls, but if you do buy go to rocksolidamps.com. You can get Engls for around $1000 up to over $3000. Check out the website.![]()
SFW":e3031 said:I'm sure you know, but check Music-Go-Round. It's not often, but every once in a while they get some cool gear in.
I didn't know the Legacy combo was toast. I didn't have time to plug it in. Good to know though.
I play with Savage Evolution. We're on writing break right now, but should be hitting the stage again around late Sept.

gravfed":74142 said:If you want to make a trip up north to Spring/Woodlands there is a (pawn) shop called Kats guitars that has a Krank Rev One, Krankenstien, and a Chadwick (all new). The guys who runs the place likes it when you play them loud. Also, there is an ENGL dealer I believe around this area----Vwall guitars or something like that. They were advertising ENGLs on Craigslist the other day--had powerballs, a fireball, and a screamer maybe. You may also want to check out some VHT's while your amp hunting.
