I think this might be a great solution for recording... And cheaper than building a sound proof booth!!!

What are you talking about? This is betterer than a great solution for recording. It's the next level, man. New, more betterer algorithms and more betterer processing power. Get with it.

About time...every modeler should get a makeover every few years, as processing and storage capacities keep getting cheaper and faster.

The 'Ultra' should now be the affordable model...while the 'Standard' should now just be discontinued...or very cheap.

Still....why no all in one floorboard unit?

it would be one thing with just the new options added on to the existing hardware, but this seems like a thorough overhaul, complete with all new logarithms and routines on how it bases it's modeling.
Sooo, for years people have argued that the AxeFX sounds as good and feels the same as a real tube amp all the while using inferior algorithms.

I've heard the new algorithms make angels jealous.

don barzini already bought and sold the II 3 hours ago,
after crying twice as many tearz.

this will be more realer, whole new ballgame, more tearz in eyes

:D

And hopefully the 4CM will work better (less noise) than before.

This!

Noise using the 4cm is pretty much my only complaint about the Axe.

yeah let's have some clips: real Friedman 100W/scumbacks(take your pick) against the algorithm.

I wonder if they've modeled attenuation - my Marsha changes tonality as you push it against (in my case) a Rivera Rock Crusher. And I don't mean this in a negative way - the R/C does not "ruin" the amp's output - as you change settings, the amp gets fatter when attenuated, and even cleans up a bit when the master is opened up and the pre-gain dialed back (in brown eye mode). Here is where the raging VH/80s sound lives. I will never run another 100-watter unattenuated again.

Still, twice the DSP power allows for more detailed digital approximation of reality. All what point will all ears be fooled, I wonder?

I was very interested in the AxeFX and I almost pulled the trigger but I can't keep up with the constant need to have the latest greatest. About 4 months ago I emailed F.A. and asked if they were working on anything new. I obviously received no reply. I figured in the long run this is not for me and my wallet. Even though I think they are great sounding.

The funny/sad thing is that modelers sound just like the real thing until the new modeler is out then the old modeler doesn't sound so good and people find flaws that were previously undiscovered or admitted. Pride in ownership is then almost nonexistent.

I was so proud when I bought my first PC. It had first generation hyper-threading and 32 meg videocard I paid almost $3k for it. If I had that now I would have to pay to get rid of it. I am sure the price on used AxeFXs will fall dramatically. I will wait and pick up one of those at that time.

I heard the next generation Tigersharc is coming out in 6 months, the II will be obsolete.

broken record but

the effects are *why* you buy the box and if you just keep it that simple you're golden, standard, ultra, II....like tony the tiger says therrrrre great! powerful stunning sounds. this hasn't changed.

but if you strive for the amp accuracy, and refinement i'd be all over the ultra II. i'd also like pete thorn to demo it because i trust he'll speak honesty and not just "oh it's the realz everest"

did cliff have any idea his product would take on this kind of hype? maybe not but now that it has he has put his creative powers to refining the device and all he gets is attacked, again, but this time by axe advocates who raved about owning the box last week...

he releases free updates tirelessly and interfaces with the leaders in the biz to do so, then shmucks like me complain about the realz. i see the II as a major effort on his part to improve an already great product. period. knowing what i know about the ultra, i want the II like yesterday! i'm over the axe whining. cliff is cool.

i've had my ups and downs with the ultra but in the end it is a great device, i got solid results, and as long as people don't try to convince me that it does things i know in my experience it doesn't do, and now based on the upgrades validates what i was hearing, i'm a happy camper.

it's a COMPUTER, and the apple analogy is perfect. tc released the g major II. trade ins on the I? - i think not. and almost quarterly your new ipad or tower devalues instantly with a new release which is always unpredictable and shrouded in secrecy but EXPECTED. that's life. i have a 2005 G5 and a 2009 macbook and a 2010 iphone and they're all bulletproof and i'll continue to buy apple because they continue to impress me and advance in features and work.

i promise i have no insider info but i swear i could sense it was time for a new box and seems i sold at the perfect time.

I agree the USB and the other new features are very nice additions.
Absolutely.

Well done, FA.

+1 on the 4CM

The byproduct of using gear as a status symbol as opposed to what it was intended for, to make music.

Agreed...there's always pain in releasing new software/hardware for the previous owners that feel duped. But he can't just never update it. It's great he's releasing a new unit, IMO it's long overdue. Hardware has changed a lot since he first designed them, of course, after all these years, the Axe can be made better.

I am very curious how much better the new G2 modeling is. I look forward to the comparison clips.

I've taken issue with some of Cliff's online comments and actions, BUT I have no problem with his business model....and everyone has bad days. His business model seems pretty successful to me and I'm not entirely sure what the people that are angry expected him to do.

This is great, and about right in the timing considering how long his prior units been on the market, speciallyi for digital. I will probably work towards one of these, but what sucks is the drop in value that the old units will have once it does, but oh well, it was bound to come at some point.

You put in one sentence my experience as well. IHMO 90% of the negativity towards the unit is rooted in the hyper sensitivity and way over blown statements of it being an amp killer by a small group of users.

As far as the II goes.... it addresses the problems I had with the unit so I'll be getting one and I think Cliff did a great job listening to his users. I don't get why people are pissed. :dunno:

2200 for the modeller that is better at modelling than the previous one, the one that was nailing the real tones? So now what, it's more accurate than the real amp?

I paid less than 2200 for a 1968 plexi, a 1973 JMP Bass and the matching 4x12, combined. #winning#
