who has tried these?

Just curious because I bought the AmpLink 3 months ago, after I had read numerous reviews that it sounded better than the iRig. I only used it a few times but I thought it sounded great. 2 days ago it broke. I couldn't find any warranty info on it and GC wouldn't take it back since it was past their 30 day return limit (I couldn't find the receipt or box).

So I ended up buying the iRig to try, since it looks like its built more solid at least. I figured I'd just take it back if it didn't sound good. Turns out it sounds EXACTLY THE SAME. I guess this is because I'm using it with the AmpKit software, not Amplitube like the instructions suggest. I have read reviews that say the iRig has feedback problems that don't exist in the AmpLink, but I hear absolutely no difference between the 2.

Having said that, the iRig has no batteries, and the AmpLink does, so the iRig will suck the phone's battery down, but I figure every time I will use it I'll have the phone plugged in anyway. I actually like this better because the AmpLink had no A/C adapter option, so you were forced to keep buying batteries for it.

So if anyone is looking to buy one of these, I'll suggest the iRig along with the AmpKit app instead of Amplitube. Hopefully I can post clips soon.

I just got the AmpKit but haven't played around with it much. No, the build quality isn't high but neither is the price. I found Peavey's ReValver software quite capable, so I went with the AmpKit package and will buy the 6505 amp model, for instance.

I don't know how AmpKit compares to other interfaces. From what I've tried so far, it sounds at least capable, which I guess is more than enough for what I want to use it, i.e. late-night practice on the iPad, recording some riffs & ideas, Garage Band...I see it more as an accessory with some sort of fun factor than a real workhorse device. If it turns out that I don't actually use it often (like any Line 6 stuff I have owned), then it will go the way of all unloved gear...

yeah the sound is great for the price, as good as a POD in my opinion. The Vintage 30 model is pretty convincing.

I was just pissed it broke after barely using it. It got to where it was nothing but static. The iRig sounds exactly the same (except no static), so I guess its all in which app you use.

I'm actually itching to try it live :D

I bought the peavey ampkit link and I'm really dissatisfied with it, it only works if you jiggle the cable for a while and cuts out intermittently. The software sounds great, but the interface is junk IMO.

I bought the Apogee JAM to use with GarageBand on my iPad2:

Of course, I don't have either because they haven't shipped them to me yet (won't have the iPad2 for another 2-3 weeks)... so I really don't have anything useful to add at this point... :D

They did ship my iPad cover though!

Haha, same here. Got the cover today, ipad in a few weeks. This cover sure is swanky though.
