I know. Old band. Old news.
I'm on an Iron Maiden kick.
I recently watched all the parts of "The History of Iron Maiden" on YT.
It gave me a new appreciation for the band. I already loved them. Ed Hunter Tour, Bronco Bowl Dallas 1999, is one of the best concerts I've ever experienced. I have even more respect for them now.
7th Son was the first cassette I bought for myself, on the suggestion of friends, without ever having heard Iron Maiden before. I quickly worked my way back through their catalog.
Piece of Mind thru 7th Son are my favs. McBrain took that band to the next level, imo.
I can, and often do, listen to any of those albums all the way thru, over and over. Usually on cassette while I'm working on a motorcycle or something else in the garage.

The intro for Die With Your Boots On is killer:

Same for Sea Of Madness:

In the spirit of Maiden fanboying, slapped an old Dimarzio DP100 Super Distortion into my Explorer last night. I've had the 500t, Godwood, Psykes and an old JBJ in there. I've only had the SD in superstrats, and never cared for it. Initial impressions in the Exploder, killer! Going to explore (no pun intended) this combo for a while. EVH, Maiden, plethora of others can't be wrong.

One of the first bands I really got into as a kid after I discovered metal, they were the second concert I went to, saw them on the Powerslave tour with WASP opening and would see them for the next two tours (Somewhere In Time and Seventh Son). I remember going to Montgomery Wards when I was 9 and how hard it was to decide on what album of theirs to buy just going by the cover art..Piece Of Mind had just come out but I went with Number Of The Beast and that was all it took...all of these years later, I still love them but those albums from the self-titled to Seventh Son are my favorites.

Wish I could've seen the Powerslave tour!
They were so good in 99. I had seen plenty of great concerts, but they were freaking brilliant.
I guess Maiden was my gateway into metal. I was into LZ, PF, AC/DC, GnR, Dokken, Tesla...then quickly got into Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth Ozzy/Sabbath after getting 7th Son. I still have all of those cassettes. Some of em don't sound so great anymore. I'm slowly building up a vinyl collection, and every once in a while grab one of those old albums. Dark Side on 180g vinyl sounds amazing. Just realized I have no old Maiden on vinyl, just Senjutsu. Gotta fix that.

I always favoured Maiden 'cause of Steve Harris' bass playing.

That gallop, and also the fact that he played without a pick back when almost every other man and his dog in metal used one. Gave it punch, which I loved.
He's a madman on bass. Almost his own thing, really.
You get a sense of how it was Steve's focus and intuition that drove that band to being the beast they became, after watching "The History of IM".
It's amazing, the amount of thought, planning, support and care that was given to their tours, image, keeping the band's integrity. They had such a great team of smart, creative people backing them. It started, and was ultimately guided by Harris. But he had the best team a guy could ask for.

My gateway album was No Prayer for the Dying, and I'm a fan of the band. It was kind of rough initially since I was really i to Nirvana and RHCP at that time, but Maiden and Ozzy helped me appreciate metal. Favourite album for me is Powerslave, a sound blast from start to finish. Favourite song is 22 Acacia Avenue.

From Number of the Beast until Fear of the Dark, I was pretty ravenous as a fan. Caught them live on Piece of Mind, Powerslave, Somewhere in Time & 7th Son tours.
The band was insane live, and Harris using fingers only, the harmony guitars, gallop rhythm and Bruce's vocal range all were a huge influence on my playing & writing.
Prime Maiden was pretty near untouchable

First time ever, a Maiden Thread! 🤩

Around the late '80s/early '90s, I might have said Metallica would be the all-time Champions of Metal, but then they became flatulent for at least 15 years, and never really found their way back to true form.

Maiden's only hiccup was when they were briefly without Bruce in the '90s, but they've been like Iron the rest of the time, and kick harder today than Metallica (having a real drummer helps). Maiden still fully live up to their OWN name in new songwriting quality and live performance. So Maiden are the all-time Champions. :worship_gray::worship_gray::worship_gray:

Maiden are also the Rulers of Rio and Donnigton. And of course, Long Beach.

Though not a massive fan of them the things I like, I really like. It'll be a sad day when they hang it up because IM has kinda been a constant in the world of rock since they came out, I like that. The world needs Iron Maiden.

I've also become a pretty big Adrian Smith fan through the years.

Maiden are the one band I rushed to the local Kmart to grab the new album when I was a teenager. VH was for a bit but they kept getting more mellow with each record. I bought Dokken records but only jumped to George's leads lol. Big Priest fan too but it was hard to top Vengeance so I was lukewarm on those guys after Defenders.

Finally saw them live in 2012 at Rock Fest here in Wi. They were freaking great. Had tickets to see them in 84 but I got grounded by my parents for stupid shit I did. I deserved it.

I played with a Maiden tribute back in 2014 for a few shows...had my main cover band at that time so I couldn't do 2 bands (per the wife at the time). Fast forward to today, I'm playing with them again and it's a blast playing those old tunes. Trooper, 2 Minutes, Number, Hallowed be thy Name, etc.
We're all a bunch of over 50 yr olds but what the hell. The singer can't quite hit the high notes of Bruce but I can at least during the chorus of most songs.

Wish I could've seen the Powerslave tour!

In 1989 my parents moved from my small town in Mn where I grew up, to the twin cities. I was in the Army at the time, and was NOT happy when I went home on leave to find out that when they moved, they tossed ALL my records. Ugh. I also had a bunch of Star Wars stuff from the late 70s that I had kept, that they also tossed. Those damn things would be worth a TON today to collectors.

Love Maiden, very unique band that really never chased any sound, they just wrote material that they liked and it kicked ass. I really feel like the peak was 7th son but they still had some great tunes and albums after that as well. Still listen to them regularly, Adrian Smith is one of my favourite guitar players. Always wrote what was right for the song and his work with Bruce on Accident of Birth is out of this world. He has continued to grow and improve as a musician. The only thing that sucks about Maiden?? You guessed it...Janick.

7th Son was my first Maiden album and favorite in many ways, but the entire '80s collection is basically perfect.

And the title track is probably their best epic song.

Their harmony work (such a cool melody that just sticks in your head) on "Stars" is a perfect example of playing what is right for the song - never overplay, but never give less than the tune needs or deserves.

ive never listened to iron maiden. couldnt name one album. one of these days i gotta try

His bas tone was so clean, almost like a piano. In my opinion he has the best bass tone of anyone in the rock/metal world.

I would assume this is a given for anyone interested in Metal/Hard rock in general

Same, I always assume everyone is into maiden if they play guitar

ive never listened to iron maiden. couldnt name one album. one of these days i gotta try

I would say start with Powerslave or Number of the Beast - generally those two are considered the best, with everyone arguing over which is better. Then Piece of Mind, Somewhere in Time, Killers, are the next tier.
