His bas tone was so clean, almost like a piano. In my opinion he has the best bass tone of anyone in the rock/metal world.

Going on youtube and listening to Steve's isolated bass tracks is truly inspiring. So good and so real because you hear his timing speed up /slow down, all the clanking and sometimes less precise fingering on the gallops but the performance sits perfectly in the mix. Also, if you ever try to finger a Maiden song, your inner forearm will be on fire unless you regularly play.

While in high school bought Piece Of Mind and Number of the Beast same day. No idea who they were, liked the covers. Thought they were ok. Summer 84 after graduation hooked up with some guys looking for a gtr player. They were doing a bunch of Maiden after learning the stuff liked it alot more.
Saw them on Powerslave with Accept, awesome show.
Played in a couple Iron Maiden tributes…pretty fun. Did all of Live After Death with the stage setup, Eddie and pyro…good times.

I bought Live After Death in 86 or so, based on the cover artwork, and I was pretty much hooked. In small town Iowa, driving to Pamida in a neighboring town, or wherever I could get to, to see if any stores carried other albums. Piece of Mind, Number of the Beast, Powerslave, Maiden Japan, and then finally the D'Anno ones. My walls were plastered with any Eddie posters I could get my hands on. I'm fairly certain the guitar work in particular help drive me to start playing.

I'm still a fan, but Like a lot of people, I think their earlier material is their best. More raw, fresh. More of a hunger. I'm sure nostalgia plays a role in that too. I travelled to Denver to see them last year, and I'm headed to L.A. to see them later this year.

Yeah, I even threw down for Derek Rigg's signed, hardcover book:

My brother bought home Metallica, Iron Maiden, Paradise Lost, Aerosmith, Guns N’ Roses etc albums when I was young. I was Metallica fan at first and liked a few Iron Maiden songs but some Iron Maiden stuff production was not of my liking. As I got older I started liking Iron Maiden more and more and these days I love their 80s stuff, my favorite albums being 7th Son of a 7th Son and Somewhere in Time.

First time ever, a Maiden Thread! 🤩

Around the late '80s/early '90s, I might have said Metallica would be the all-time Champions of Metal, but then they became flatulent for at least 15 years, and never really found their way back to true form.

Maiden's only hiccup was when they were briefly without Bruce in the '90s, but they've been like Iron the rest of the time, and kick harder today than Metallica (having a real drummer helps). Maiden still fully live up to their OWN name in new songwriting quality and live performance. So Maiden are the all-time Champions. :worship_gray::worship_gray::worship_gray:

Maiden are also the Rulers of Rio and Donnigton. And of course, Long Beach.
I started one a few months back.

In 1989 my parents moved from my small town in Mn where I grew up, to the twin cities. I was in the Army at the time, and was NOT happy when I went home on leave to find out that when they moved, they tossed ALL my records. Ugh. I also had a bunch of Star Wars stuff from the late 70s that I had kept, that they also tossed. Those damn things would be worth a TON today to collectors.
My parents did something similar. I went off to college in the fall of 1988. Came home a few years later, and they threw out all of my Circus and Hit Parader magazines, my WASP picture disks and singles, and my Raven cassettes lol.

Damn...sucks. It's not like my stuff or yours would have taken up much room for God's sake...just a box or two at most.

Maiden were the first band I really got into - I was around 12 at the time. Bought Number of the Beast, then Powerslave, then A Real Live One and A Real Dead One. A year or so later everyone at school suddenly got into grunge and liking Maiden wasn’t cool and as I grew older I got into different bands. I finally got back into listening to them around 2010 when Fear of the Dark popped into my head for some reason. They’ve been on regular rotation ever since.

Thats true
I would say besides the vocals, the bass playing would be the hardest part of Maiden by far

Huge OG Iron Maiden fan....

Got to play a old IM tune recently. The bass player was our lead singer back in 1983 of a metal cover band.... hadn't played with him in 43 years!!!

Maiden are the one band I rushed to the local Kmart to grab the new album when I was a teenager. VH was for a bit but they kept getting more mellow with each record. I bought Dokken records but only jumped to George's leads lol. Big Priest fan too but it was hard to top Vengeance so I was lukewarm on those guys after Defenders.

Finally saw them live in 2012 at Rock Fest here in Wi. They were freaking great. Had tickets to see them in 84 but I got grounded by my parents for stupid shit I did. I deserved it.

I played with a Maiden tribute back in 2014 for a few shows...had my main cover band at that time so I couldn't do 2 bands (per the wife at the time). Fast forward to today, I'm playing with them again and it's a blast playing those old tunes. Trooper, 2 Minutes, Number, Hallowed be thy Name, etc.
We're all a bunch of over 50 yr olds but what the hell. The singer can't quite hit the high notes of Bruce but I can at least during the chorus of most songs.
Hey, you're like 20 yrs younger than the guys in IM. You can do it for a long time!

That's sux! Same thing happened to me, smaller level, when my dad and step-mother got divorced. Dad and I moved out, leaving lots behind. When I went back to grab the rest of my stuff, Heman, transformers, hot wheels, stereo system with dual cassette and record player... all gone in a garage sell.

Dude, I had this really cool collectible Star Wars 'sketch collection' that during the process of George Lucas planning for the film, they go through scenes and use sketches to map out how everything will come together. Not many of those made. Probably worth 6 figures today.

Noooooooooo! That's retirement $, dammit!

I like both. Two different sounds and bands feels like but both were great. Clive was amazing on drums too.

100% agree. It's kind of like Helloween - instead of one bad singer, one good singer, all the singers are good. So it's like a "bonus" band.

I consider Paul and Bruce to both be excellent vocalists, it's just like 2 bands in one - just like helloween is three bands in one.

Shit even Blayze bayley was good in leatherwolf. I don't know what the fuck happened when he replaced Bruce but he didn't sound like himself.

Funny story, the "friends" that suggested I grab 7th Son, while we're in Hastings at the mall, were also the ones that later stole the cassette from me while we were in the arcade. 🤬 I never even got to listen to it! And I was too dumb to suspect them.

So I, like any 15 yr old guy would do, went to Kmart, took that same, new cassette to the garden section, cut it out of the plastic holder with garden shears, and walked out with it. I'm not ashamed.

Later, got a Charvette, my first electric, from one of those "friends", paying $25, saying I'd pay the rest after my next pay check from Taco Bell. Idiot really thought I was gonna pay. 😏 Fuk those guys.

I really like the lyrics in this one. To answer your question, lyrics - Bailey, music - Gers. That's what happened to them.
