I've said this a few times, but my 8 year old son is absolutely infatuated with Iron Maiden. He started when he was about 4. I happened to be watching the Rock in Rio DVD and he became enamored with it. He has worn out my entire CD collection. Just this weekend, we were travelling home from the Cincinnati boat show and he was watching an Iron Maiden DVD in the car. Not stuff most 8 year old kids listen to.

He's casually learning to play drums and he wants to learn "the Prisoner".

My iron maiden fandom goes back to 1982 when I saw them on the Beast tour.

Yea, I`ve been digging Maiden since `85.
I lived in Northern Norway, and since it was 2000 km to the nearest gig, there was no chance of seeing them live, but a friend got Live after death on video, and we watched that tape to shreds I remember sitting in my room, playing along to the entire album. I was probably a nerd at the time, hehe.

I remember being in Catholic school and having to decorate a traced version of myself in 5th grade. I drew a Live After Death tour shirt, might have been a World Slavery tour shirt now that I think about it. Either way, the nuns were not too happy. The folks had to come down and get a lecture after I had mine.

Maiden is a classic. I saw them many times back in the day. They toured with Priest frequently, and I always thought Maiden far better, more interesting, etc. For a time, Iron Maiden was one of my top favs...

That said, growing up in the period of metal (from Sabbath with Ozzy, Deep Purple, etc in the '70s - saw VH open for Sabbath (with Ozzy) in '78 never say die tour) through the '80s, '90s, it sounds dated to me. For me, it was VH emergence that changed the landscape, then Metallica - and the thrash band era (Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Testament, Overkill, Pantera, etc.) that really makes Maiden a classic for me - and classics = dated (to me). I don't mean dated in the negative sense as I consider many of my favorite bands "classics" i.e., dated, as in they don't make stuff like this, or this good, any more. Not into the new metal of today or the last 5+ years, though the last metal band I was in was called a death/black metal in the mid '90s.

Dude our boys need to get together. My eight year old is a Maiden fiend. He's learning to play guitar. This morning he got ready for school and had on his "Best of the Beast" shirt on(it has like 20 different Eddies on the front) 1 out of 3 of his Maiden shirts. I have video of him singing "Die With Your Boots On" when he was 4. Priceless

That picture is a classic. I appreciate it that my son actually has a genuine interest in the music (like you son probably does), and it's not one of those tacky or redneck situations when you see parents supporting an inappropriate type of music or language for kids (not sure if that makes sense).

That picture is a classic. Makes perfect sense. My kids all have an appreciation for music. They come from a long line of musicians. I have my Granddads guitar on display that was built in the early 1900s(maybe late 1800s),he died at 97 in 1998.
My oldest son (16) and I have our tix to see Bonamassa on March 1st and the little dude is pissed that he doesn't get to go.
