My wife doesn't find the Axe fx as appealing as I do.

what to do.....

it does a lot of tones well but none are amazing. just depends if you want versatility or a great tube amp. def fun to play with.

COnsidering its four grand for a decent amp and cab setup around here these days, the axefxII doesnt seem like a bad deal at all. I got to play it at the ny amp show and was impressed as was everyone pretty much.

I like all of the options available with the Axe-FX. You can go into the P.A., headphones (with the II), into a computer, use power amp/cab, use just powered speakers, etc.

Everyone, especially all of us tone junkies on RT, know that being able to replicate an entire tube rig is difficult. I can't afford to buy the Fender Blackface, Modded Marshall, Mesa, etc., etc. so the Axe-FX II allows me to dabble in all of those and I really enjoy it. Sometimes I'm in a blues-tone type mood and sometimes I want to play heavy stuff. I like having all of the options.

There is a difference between the modelling of the past and what Fractal has done with this. Years ago I had LINE 6 amps, Johnson Amplification, Behringer V-AMP, etc. and although they sounded cool, it did sound like a modeller and just a louder modeller as you turned up the volume. You can hear that improvement with the Axe-FX.

Maybe folks that have just started playing can't tell the difference. I've been playing since 1985 and can definitely tell the difference.

Perhaps start another thread asking if the wife is worth it. :D

For recording I lived my ultra but live it didn't sound so good through a standard cab but the may have also been the power amp I was using.

But for recording it was the best, I have since sold it and no pluggings I have tried have come close.
I will get another in the future.

I'll be getting a used standard or ultra in late Dec :)

just reading thru the manual is a treat.

Yes it is... It is worth it by a long shot!

Especially Mark Day's AXE-FX...

It sounds better than any AXE-FX I have ever heard, and it is by chance for sale... see classifieds!
