Is it possible for a song to have too many solos?

This doesn't apply to hippie jam bands with 20 minute solos *cough cough Allman Brothers cough cough* but a song with TOO many solo breaks.

I was at work this morning and it popped in my head that I haven't listened to Psychotron by Megadeth in forever! I love the intro part so I gave it a listen before I left to go start making deliveries. That song has way too many solos, moreso than I remember. I love Marty, I think he's one of the best guitarists of all time but damn, I don't need like 15 solo breaks in a song.

But it's also possible for a song to have a shitload of solos and make complete sense, too

It literally depends on the song, band, style of music, etc

Obviously in punk most of the time guitar solos are verboten; and yet, bad religion has a bunch of songs with half a dozen different solos and lead breaks. "I Want to Conquer the World" and "modern man" come to mind. It works for them. However, that would sound completely retarded if the Ramones had a bunch of solos in their songs.

Similarly, power metal is famous for constant guitar solos (and drum solos, and bass solos, and keyboard solos...) all the time. Bands like Stratovarius, Helloween, Blind Guardian, etc etc.

Except for like, "the dark saga" by iced earth which is one of the most famous power metal records of all time has like 4 guitar solos on the entire fucking record.

So it completely depends on the song, and the band; I don't think there's a hard and fast rule about this.

I ws thinking of Megadeth when I read the thread title, it´s obviously an awesome all-timer of a track that would be lesser for any changes... but Hangar 18 comes to mind as something that has like 90 seconds of actual song including a long intro riff and then five minutes of solos
