Is Megadeth broke?

What are your thoughts on this theory regarding them disbanding...? Recently I heard they were opening up for Disturbed?

I watched a video recently talking about how Dave has recently made millions off his wine company and other side deals, Megadeth might be struggling but I don’t think he personally is

Ya the band is probably is taking money from that . I also think he saw the Ozzy goodbye fan fare and hopes to get some love . He announced after Ozzy farewell and death . My first thought was that

I think it has more to do with Dave going through throat cancer. His voice hasn't been quite the same since. Who knows how much of a struggle touring is for him physically. I'm a big Megadeth fan, it's sad to see them go, but I'm glad he's going out respectfully. He could cling on like some of these other 80s washups that can't hack it anymore.

Dave has always been pretty good about lining his pockets. Back in the day, there were some good online forums. The pantera forum was so good… and the Megadeth forum was good too. Then I remember Dave making it to where it cost money to use. Poof, a good thing gone

just think about how much he’s made off the first 3 Metallica albums

Ten thousand upfront.
Ten thousand when it's through.
And you know, He'll do it too!

Maybe he'll need to sell a Bentley or Aston Martin.
I guess he's always got the DM playbook for a new album/book publicity: a) throw shit on his ex-Megadeth members, or b) start lobbing shots at Lars/James/Kirk. Anything for some clicks and rage bait engagement.
Oh, but it's not his fault.. the interviewers set him up... yeah, He knows what he's doing and he could just not answer any questions he wants. He loves the drama.

I like Dave and his playing, but I'm well tired of his stupid bigmouth shit.

I dont think they are broke. I could be wrong, but I get the sense that bands these days make the most money from touring. As others have hinted, I think maybe he's just had enough. I wouldnt blame him to be fair. If I lived in a mansion and had millions floating around, I think I'd find it hard to justify going away from home for long periods, when I dont really need to. I could see them follow the Slayer model, just rock up for a few concerts a year to keep the lights on.

Its a very different world now to the early 80s when Dave was homeless and had many extra-curriculars.

^^^ Pretty much this.

I don't think they in any different financial situation than other bands of their stature. I'm sure Dave lines his pockets with more take-home pay than the rest of the band members, but as a whole I doubt they're struggling. And let's face it, Dave's getting on in years. Not everyone can or wants to keep pushing until they're 437 years old like the Rolling Stones.

I get a sneaking suspicion Dave doesn’t LOVE touring anymore. Like when you see Metallica, they seem like they still love being out there. I don’t get that from Dave.
This, for sure. But I don't think MegaDave really likes people in general. Im sure he loves those closest to him, but it's the "Limelight" effect. "I can't pretend a stranger is a long awaited friend." Trying to be polite while doing grip and grins every day on tour has gotta suck.

Megadeth is a band but it's also a BRAND.
Brands can become unprofitable in certain retail or economic climates. Especially aging brands.
Not a matter of the juice not being worth the squeeze, more like it's taking more time and effort squeezing to get the same amount of juice as before...

AI:

As of October 2025, Dave Mustaine's net worth is reported to be around $14 million. However, some fans and observers believe this figure is likely higher.
Factors that contribute to his wealth include:
Megadeth: Mustaine is the co-founder, frontman, primary songwriter, and sole consistent member of the multi-platinum-selling band Megadeth.
Royalties: He receives royalties for his contributions to Metallica's early work, having written songs that appeared on the albums Kill 'Em All and Ride the Lightning.
Other Ventures: His income is supplemented by business interests outside of music, such as his wine and beer businesses.
Signature Gear: Mustaine also has signature guitars and other gear produced in collaboration with companies like Gibson.

this whole video breaks down a lot of stuff ive never heard, how true it is i dont know

If you are talking about the part starting where you time stamped it I'd say he is doing pretty well. It points out:

1. Revenue from early Metallica songs
2. Stripped down concert stages - vs. Metallica
3. Dave has passive income (wine business)
3.5. Dave chases the Gen X'rs who used to buy $10 cassettes and now buy $200 bottles of wine
4. Dave is possibly more frugal than we think

The benefits of not mic'ing the angled part of his 4x12 my man.
