Is the Honeymoon Period wearing off for any AxeFX users yet.

Just curious if any of you Axefx users are finding things about the AxeFX that are starting to annoy you, or make you think about coming back to tube amps. The AxeFX has got my curiousity now, but I'm still leary of taking the plunge. Does the honeymoon period just keep on going for ever.

The only thing I don't like is the fact that I've been sitting on my thumbs and not learning more about it.

I've had mine for over two years now and I love more every day that I use it. If this is still a honeymoon period I don't want it to ever end.

I bought one for recording, basically. I couldn't be arsed programming it. It has enough presets that I can flick through and have a quick play here in the house. Thought about using it as FX only in my rig, but didn't do that either. I have it on my desk in a rack along with my Digi 003 rack routed through my powered monitors. So, instead of setting up something when I feel like a quick riff or want to capture something original - I just plug in a guitar and go. Great for that -- for me. As for replicating the sound of any of my tube amps, no damn way. Although, some people are doing some good stuff with it. Just not my thing.....

had mine for about a year or so and I am still loving it, I use it mainly as a direct recording device. The thing that has really kept it fresh is that it actually has improved, both in sound and in amp choices. Recently adding some very usable amps, its really hard to get sick of it, its like the gift that keeps on giving. so not much I can gripe about it here.

I still use my tube amps for live playing, only because I didn't want to invest in a controller for live use with the axe, but I bring it for direct plug and play every now in then, which does make me miss my tube amps live going direct through floor monitor, but I wouldn't like just hearing my mic'd up amp through just a floor monitor either, me likes to feel the actual cab you know.

I wouldn't really use it for recording, mainly live. Is there any reason to get the Ultra over the Standard if I'd just be using an amp sim and a few basic fxs?

If all you care about is the amp models and meat-and-potato effects the standard is the way to go. The amp models sound the same as the Ultra. The Ultra has better pitch and reverb effects in addition to a bunch of esoteric effects that you probably wouldn't use. The Ultra is also almost sold out and will soon be out of stock. We have plenty of standards.

I have been using an Axe for well over a year and find new and useful things inside it regurlarly. Still brings a big ole smile to my face every time I play it. Keep in mind the source of that statement.....I could easily qualify as one of the biggest gear flippers/gear whore's on this board for several years.

Regarding the Ultra vs Standard, I have a Standard and have almost pulled the trigger on an Ultra several times, but the fact is, I just don't need one.

Most of my patches are:

Drive-Amp-Graphic EQ-Reverb----out to power amp

Pretty similar to what I do witha "real" amp....mnius the reverb, because I never found a reverb I liked with high gain stuff before using the Axe.

One of the biggest things I like about the amp models is that you can dial out or accentuate things you like about the real thing. For example, I love the basic Recto tone, but have never gotten a tight enough bottom for my tastes out of one (though a Ractifier I owned an da Voodoo Moded Dual were close). Using the Recto Orange sim and tightening the bottom with some of the advanced tweaks, I get exactly where I want to go.

Really can't imagine EVER not having an Axe in my rig.

That sounds really interesting Mc.

Would you mind posting such a patch for me? I am looking to get that "first recto" thing dialed in properly and have a bit of trouble with it.

Interested to hear a nice recto patch as well

I picked up a Standard again recently and I don't know what you guys did but the newest revision rocks

I think I was one of the first here and on HC to try one.
I can't imagine ever doing without the Axe-FX now.
I have sung the praises of it long and loud and can not
imagine a better piece of kit for creating and crafting tones.

I still absolutely love mine and will never get rid of it. Whenever I get bored with a tone i know there is a new one around the corner with just only a few tweaks . I love the freaking thing . I must admit that I was pretty tough on it in the beginning but after using it the way I am now, i couldn't be happier.
On another note, I had a NYC guitar teacher approach me at my last gig. he shook my hand and asked me what the hell I was using since he couldn't tell what it was and he loved the sounds that I was getting. If I had a camera I would have taken a picture of his face after I told him it was a modelor :hys: His face was priceless!! I also wrote down what it was so that he could look it up.
