Is there a OD pedal that doesnt sound ice picky?

Sounds like an EQ pedal might be your best bet. Pushing preamp tubes is going to add the highs regardless of what pushes it. An EQ pedal will help you dial some of this out and add the low end you desire. Saying that, I really like how my Maxon OD-9 pro+ beefs up my Marshalls compared to other OD's/boosts.

I bought a DSL100 on the cheap as a backup. Turns out it is great amp. I have a half dozen stomps for dirt. They all sound ok, one is stellar.

OCD

The Xotic boosts work well but don't have the old JTM vibe of the OCD. A delay, OCD, DSL, and my iPod song list to jam to, hours go by....

I wouldn't buy an OCD if you want a clean od.
I would go to Ts alike or the most transparent od i've ever tried Marshall bb-2. But i don't know if this last one pushes as hard as you want. Timmy and KOT may be an option too but they may be a bit strident for your taste.
I would also check the BB preamp and the sd 9 (what i use), transparency and gain/volume boost with a spectacular low end.

Ice pickey can be a result of the amp it's driving too. I have a bunch of pedals and have had ton at the studio over the years, ime the OCD is consistently my favorite, more then the TS/Maxon stuff. I have an OD808, honestly the only time I have liked it as much or more then an OCD is in Fluff's video demo.

Any good 808
Lovepedal Eternity
Xotic BB/BB+
JHS Morning Glory
JHS Klon clone
Wampler Ecstasy
Fuzzhugger Dark Boost
Timmy
Boss Bluesdriver
Boss Super Overdrive
MXR GT OD
MXR Classic OD
......

there are literally thousands of warm/smooth sounding od boxes out there. If you're getting ice-pick top end from yours it's more than likely your amp or amp settings.

Timmy is the best I've found at pulling back piercing highs

This. The OCD was actually one of the more "raw" sounding ods I owned as far as top-end grittiness goes. Not a smooth pedal and while it has a bit of old school JTM vibe and responds to picking dynamics like an amp, it is completely missing the mids.

Reza - My 5153 has a damn tubegasm with the AC boost. I used to have a Rivera KT. It was the same way.

Rupe - I'm going to hit the Atlanta music store round today and one place carries a Timmy pedal, germanium based thing right? Gonna try one. Consistently hear this one mentioned.

I'm not aware that its germanium...sounds more transparent than that to me. I paid no attention to the hype but ended up trying one when I had the opportunity and was blown away. The key thing to remember is that the bass and treble controls are cuts...they decrease as you turn them up. This lets you dial those frequencies out to get rid of spikey highs and flubby lows...you can really dial in smooth, singing, mid-focused sounds that feel great and cut well. It also has an internal DIP switch that alters the gain structure.

Whats the difference between the Tim and Timmy? The Tim is $169 and the Timmy is $129. Is the Tim worth the extra dough?

I am interested in also having the pedal beef up the tone and add some girth/low end as well. The highs cant be ice picky but should be the opposite with a warm/rounded top end.

Will be used with a jcm 2000 so it doesnt really have to have a lot of gain but should be clear and dynamic if possible.
Pedals I am considering are the maxon vop-9, OCD, pork loin, rc boost. Never tried these but just based my list on forum opinions.

Hands down, J&J Overdrive. No contest.

Great pedal, but depends on if it's that sound he's going for. The OCD was on my board for awhile but I sold it because my Xotic BB+ and Eternity do what I want much better. The OCD is not really a smooth sounding od, as it has that Fendery/sorta JTM-like crispy high end. It's strength is that it's incredibly responsive to pick attack and dynamics. Basically, it feels like you're playing an amp when you plug into an OCD. The voicing just didn't gel with me though. It is sorta edgy and raw, like a Fender amp when gained up.

Agree.
I have an OCD clone. Love it as od, but as boost i wouldn't recommend it... (edit->) The sound is not smooth and "polished" but crispy.
But you may like it, in the end what matters is that.

The Fulltone Fullldrive II is pretty smooth. I'm waiting for his new Secret Freq. Looks to be like something I want.

FWIW, I too have the BB Pre, in fact, of the 'dirt' at my feet, those are the only 2 stomps - the OCD and the BB. I tend to use my Creation Audio Labs Mk.4:23 Pro for a lot of my boosting and overdrive needs. It's a different cat, as many of you KNOW I like to talk about. But in the world of dirt, I've tried the Maxon, the Ibby, the BOSS (MIJ), and a host of others. To my ears, and almost as importantly - to my amplifiers - the two aforementioned stomps work the best.

But hey, the beauty of all of this is that it's in the ear of the beholder.

Tim is a 2 stage pedal that unfortunately I can't get my hands on. The store I deal with is telling me they can't even order them right now.. So sad....

Have you hit up the Jetter pedals Mo? Since you like the OCD, the Jetter R2 plays very well with it. The OCD with not much gain and the JTM side of the Jetter are just sick together. I got this DSL100 to have as a high risk gig amp and to cover a basic Marshall tone. Those pedals, alone or together work the front end of the DSL like Jenna in a porno.. Serious fun.

Hagen still sweet?

There's a ton of options out there, best bet to go to a store to try a bunch out

one of my current favourites is an MXR Custom badass Modified OD , using it to boost/overdrive a blackstar artisan amp, sounds great to my ears, it has a 100hz knob which is pretty useful and a mid hump on/off switch , and also a cheapo used Boss OD-3 i just got, sounds killer, just have to dial the tone back, boss pedals seem to great pretty graty in the high end

otherwise the BB preamp never leaves the board, and atm my favourite for boosting is a maxon OD808, sounds pretty good by itself on a clean channel, but really thrives imo boosting a dirty/semi dirty channel

for what you're looking for and the amp in question the maxon od808 would be a good choice
