wheebo morbid drive, has the tone that does not change at higher volumes as 95% of these type of pedals are known to do. Has e.q points that take care of the ice picks.
Had many of these pedals (30-50 lost count), and this is the one of the best in terms of tone, flexibility. Have a few of them, with my different rigs.

This has to be the best forum on gear, thank you all for all your opinions.
Just to clarify I am going for a santana tone from the bridge pickup. Something with a smooth fat top end that can also get aggresive when you slam on the strings (dynamics). If the pedal can also add some bottom end to my tone without mud it would be great. I dont like the bass boost on the jcm 2000.
Its hard going to a music store to try out pedals due to all the kids crankin the line 6 amps. I figure let me get some suggestions first and then I will try them out. The timmy, the mxr badass plus the od9 pro+ are also on the growing list. Klon sounds interesting but I cant pay more for the pedal than the amp, hahaha!
Klon is just stoopid... Sure, sure...sonic avant garde cork sniffers flame away, it's a stomp.

Try before you buy. Really, only your ears will know what they're needing and wanting. But ya, you've got a mess of suggestions here, some spoken with vehement vindication :D

Whats the difference between the Tim and Timmy? The Tim is $169 and the Timmy is $129. Is the Tim worth the extra dough?

Tim is a 2 stage pedal that unfortunately I can't get my hands on. The store I deal with is telling me they can't even order them right now.. So sad....
Both pedals are listed @ Fat Sounds: http://www.fatsoundguitars.com/store/ef ... ffects.php

If you're going for a real smooth Santana bridge pup tone I'd steer clear of the badass od too. Cool pedal but a little harsh and more crunchy. The $30 MXR Classic OD is a Chinese made copy of the MXR GT-OD and also has a switch inside on the board that switches to the Zakk OD circuit. Great pedal for cheap! Very smooth.

My best smooth distortion is just to turn it up loud, personal fav...

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Way Huge Green Rhino yet. Awesome pedal!!! With both a 100hz control and a mid curve, you can really get a nice, warm boost. I also really like the MXR Custom Badass Modified OD. Actually, the MXR sounds a lot like the Rhino. I have them both and was comparing them side-by-side through my JCM 2000 and was really surprised how similar they can sound.

Sounds like MXR and OCD are the best bang for your buck. If you want to spend a few more bucks the Suhr riot and shiba are really smooth. Rockbox Boiling Point is the most versatile OD I've come across. It has an incredible clean boost too. Get a used one on eBay $200-250. $350 brand new is pretty steep.

IME, (and most of this has already been mentioned) the OCD is dark, but is missing something in the mids. The Xotic is good, but may have more gain than you're looking for. I like the idea of a plain old EQ up front just to hit the amp a little harder and emphasize the frequencies you want. Next week I'm picking up the BOSS FB-2 Booster that has some interesting-looking tone-shaping abilities. PM me and I'll let you know whether it's worth your time.

I love my Jetter R2. It definitely nails the Dumble-ish tone on its Red setting. The shift side sounds just plain mean, but not "icy picky" mean, right amount of warmth. Add in the JTM/left/boost side and honestly, its a triple threat pedal IMO.
