That's an odd phrasing. California is expensive real estate due to the weather and general desirability, but somehow the pressure of doing business in CA is related to political leaning? If so, Lake Elsinore CA, where Suhr is, should be an extremely easy and pressure-free place to do business, since it's Republican. In fact, I believe all of Riverside County (where Lake Elsinore is) has something like 85% Republicans, so the entire business ecosystem there should be pressure free, thanks to the lack of radical left-wingers.

Holy shit!....didn't see this coming. And, I just received my latest new Suhr on Monday...a Suhr Black Modern Satin. And, it'll probably be my last as I feel I completed my Suhr collection. Just in time, so it seems.

Same thing I always thought as well. Between the high overhead and the strict environmental standards....must be a tough road to hoe. Good for him.

I hope this is true, but in 99.99999% of these buy out cases, things change & profit becomes more important that quality.

AVLP is not run by musicians, it's run by businessmen who only care about the bottom line, not building boutique guitars with high quality woods to a small niche clientele. They want to reach as many people as possible & this is where it all goes bad.....every time.

John HAS to say this or else it looks bad. I can't imagine Suhr being the same after this buy out. I hope I'm wrong, as I love my Suhrs & was looking to get a new one next year.
 
Well, everybody needs an exist strategy. Looking down the road what's going to happen over at Lollar, Rivera, or even Duncan when people want to start retiring?

I really feel bad for John if his exit strategy is a buy out with cash & stock from an OTC company.

This is not a good deal & he can literally stand to lose it all if the company's stock goes down the drain, as is the case with most OTC companies.

I'd have thought lots of other companies like Gibson, Fender or even Peavey would be interested in Suhr for a mere $11 million.
 
Sigh... It's a sad day.

I have two Suhrs that I absolutely love. Always had a great feeling that if something happened to one of them... I could easily have it repaired, have a replacement neck made, have it refretted, at the source.

This certainly changes that feeling. :(

On at least two occasions when Suhr was increasing their list prices, I can recall John directly mentioning the challenges of managing the costs of doing business in CA. Yes, and the leftwing morons raising state and local taxes at every opportunity affects the cost of doing business. Sales tax in many CA cities is as high as 10%. Also the democrats just significantly raised the gasoline tax in CA which already had the highest gas tax in the country. These burdensome tax increases obviously affect transportation/supply/material costs. All these policies add pressure to small business owners. Contrary to leftwing beliefs, the government cannot continually rape small business owners and expect prosperity. According to Hillary Clinton, it's time for CEO's to pay up. John Suhr was the CEO at Suhr Guitars and look at the jobs and great products he brought to the market.

Folks, idiot liberalism just cost us Suhr Guitars. It's going to cost us a lot more if Hillary gets elected.

Why didn't John build the factory outside of CA to reduce costs? He was well aware of CA laws.

You can't have your cake & it it too.
 
Is that why corporate tax is lower in "liberal" countries like Canada and Ireland? :D
 
Looks like I picked the right time to switch back to Anderson. Suhr had already gotten too big and QC was slipping. This will be the end. I went through the same thing at the last company I worked for. First they tell you it will be good for everybody next come the layoffs and off shore production. Suhr won't be able to start anything else any time soon either. I'm sure there's a clause in the purchase agreement that prohibits him from doing so.
 
It's too bad! Hope everything works out for John and the current team. I hope nothing changes like he said as he is such a great and talented builder and his name is all over the product. If it did go south his name would remain on the gear. Seriously, hope this goes like he wants it to.

We should wait and see on the quality post acquisition. I am curious how this may affect the lifetime guarantee. Either way, all those that have current gear from him can rest easy knowing they have a killer guitar(s). Still looking to seeing Jim's new Suhr!

On a lighter note, I am really looking forward to reading Legacy Suhr For Sale threads and Ebay posts down the road. Should make for some really creative diatribes. :lol: :LOL:

I've heard nothing will change at my last 2 jobs when they got bought ...I no longer work at either.
 
I have 3 pre-Avalanche Suhr's - these should be worth $400,000 in 50 years or so :lol: :LOL:
