It's hard out there for a pimp

Can't say I blame him. Best of luck to he and the band.

Hate the dude has to quit his passion, but life takes over for some, at some point I suppose, and maybe now his lady is his first passion; :dunno:

Begs the question, is he the pimp or the hooker...

Can't blame him at all. These days, that type of money is a pittance, and if he wants to be able to live a meaningful life beyond his 30's, have relationships, have kids, etc., then it just isn't compatible with the touring lifestyle.

Priorities change as we grow older.

Nope. Not for a second.

I think most of us eventually come to terms with our inner hooker if the price is right.

Sucks that they can have a decent following of nearly half a million fans yet it doesn't even afford them a pot to piss in. Helluva thing this industry was reduced to.

Knowing that, I concur with Josh Homme in that "If you expect anything from music, you expect too much. Just play for yourself and do it because you love it."

I treat it that way now but notice how it's the rich guys with an established career who say that. The competition out there for those metal bands is fierce. How many teenage boys with pushed forward hair can there be? :D

Love all the esoteric, 3 to 4 word names they use.

Wonder how many of their "amazing" fans actually "bought" their music.

Damn, making $16k - $18k a year!? Jesus, does he feast on top ramen every night and live in a $200/month apartment in the ghetto or something? Kinda ridiculous how little they're making....

Wow. You mean playing in a shitty screamo metal band that sounds just like every other shitty screamo metal band in the last 10 years doesn't pay the bills? The hell you say? Who'd a thunk it? Lol!

I've never heard a single song from this band but if they're at least semi-popular I'd think they'd be making more than $18k/year. But, after all, Symphony X had day jobs for the longest time - they may still for all I know.

They have a pretty big fan base. 16-18K a year, and that's the entire band! So they're only pulling down a few grand each. The music industry is a sad thing these days.

Yeah. A lot's changed since 1970.

Anyway, I was just on iTunes last night looking for something - anything that would resonate with me the way these guys do in the "Related" section. Either I'm not as into the scene as much as I used to be or good metal is just hard to find these days. Either the vibe is there but the production value is shot or the opposite. These guys really stood out from the crowd to me and the singer had a lot to do with that.

Watched a few interviews on the guys a while back and the one thing that stayed consistent from album release to album release was that it's apparent that a family in the near future is where this guy's head and heart has always been focused. Hard to achieve the financial means when the fan base and industry you pour yourself out for doesn't reciprocate.

Sad deal. At least he's smart enough to choose his family and move on to peruse a means to effectively provide for them instead of trying to drag them through that mess.

32 years old. Half a million fans and he has to sell the goddamn jacket on his back to pay for a backyard wedding.

Son of a bitch...

we have earned between $16k-$18k each over 6-7 years,

I take that as each of them has made a TOTAL of $18,000 over 6-7 years. That's like $2,500 a year per member.

Wow. Just wow. Oh wait, you mean the article?? I thought we were looking at Mr downtown's avatar......

Emmure broke up too

Truly a rough time for fans of really shitty music.

Yeah, looks like the band skipped the dramatics and bailed on the singer.

Devin Townsend stated that he pulls about 5k / month, and that has to pay his band as well.

When you start looking towards the health costs of getting older, retirement, 401K, IRA's, Roth's, etc. the touring lifestyle simply is not reliable enough or dependable enough of a career. You do it because you love it, not for the money. He simply had a shift in priorities towards a future with a significant other, kids, etc.

I can't say I blame him. It's a shame, but at some point you have to question your talent versus your happiness. For some, touring just does not answer that inner call after a while.

Agreed 100%

Good luck to him and his family.
