I've heard about addiction issues but have yet to hear somebody speak to them beyond simple hearsay. I also know somebody who is close to Jake who says that those stories are bogus and that he simply became disenchanted with the business and became somewhat of a recluse. I don't know the truth, but the person that I know with seemingly the most credibility says there were no addiction issues.

A lot of his stuff was actually lost through non-payment of a storage locker that went to auction...not pawned off as most seem to believe. Now that Jake is making a move back toward the spotlight, perhaps he'll fill us in on his absence and put the rumors to rest.
Yeah my bad. I shouldnt have used the term "well documented". Ive only got hearsay as well.
I'm glad he is somewhat "back". He's the reason I started playing guitar, really. It was that Bark at the Moon concert they showed on MTV back when i was in Jr. High. 1984 maybe?
I dont tbink he'll have much of a problem getting an amp deal.

I TOTALLY agree with the Bark At The Moon concert on MTV. When I was a little kid, my parents made me take guitar lessons...the typical '70s Mel Bay shit..."Oh Suzanna" etc...I had a friend who's older brother was into Kiss, and I got addicted to Ace at a young age...so addicted that I had NO IDEA who anyone else was...I remember arguing with a girl that Ace was a better player than EVH...(I KNOW, I KNOW)...So a few months later, I'm hanging with my best friend Bill at the mall, we go into a record store, and they had the Guitar For the Practicing Musician issue with Jake on the cover...I asked my friend who that guy was..he says Jake E Lee, he plays for Ozzy...I said who's Ozzy (I KNOW, I KNOW). About a week after this took place, that concert was on MTV that Friday or Saturday night. I only saw it because I fell asleep on the couch in the living room and the tv was tuned to MTV...I woke up in the middle of it and was STUNNED at what I saw...I sat bolt upright just about shitting myself at THE coolest THING I HAD EVER SEEN...EVER. That mofo was/is a BAD MAN...I went back to the mall the next day and bought that magazine because of the tab for Bark At The Moon and spent hours and hours learning it...I still have it...and a white strat head Japanese market JEL Charvel too that I got much later. Jake rips.

Speed?? Never heard of that one being the cause of someone's complete demise.. usually I would think that it was among many drugs or other vices. Unless "speed" is a loose term used for the effects of something like meth.. in that case i can see becoming a recluse and pawning all your shit or not knowing what you have to pay for month to month.

As for his gear, what is funny is that while we are all drooling over his iconic gear he's probably thinking, screw this, there is so much awesome gear for me to play nowadays and a custom axe out of the charvel shop is just fine for me thanks! OR what about those razor sharp harsh 800 heads he used live in a lot of cases? I doubt he cares about using a vintage spec'd JB at this point. His fingers do the talking. An OD-1 or an SD-1..Jake will be Jake.

Several pics of Jake on Eddie Trunk's Twitter page.

Shows the new Charvel proto. Hardtail white, P90 in the bridge, two slanted singles like the original white one, and a volume and tone.

I was generalizing on the speed term. Meth, dexadrine, benzedrine, whatever. Something that speeds up the heart and produces dopamine in the brain (and isn't cocaine) ;) I did hear he was using meth for what it's worth. I'm just stoked that he appears to be back in the swing. :)

Yeah, it's pretty epic.

I don't have a twitter :( Where else can I check out pics of the Charvel prototype?

I am stoked to have some new material coming from jake. Love his work with ozzy and badlands! Badlands released a third cd called Dusk that was released in Japan only I believe that was pretty cool. I think it was all the tracks that didn't make the cut for the first two badlands CDs but nonetheless pretty good stuff. His tone on runaway train still gives me goosebumps

Go to Eddie Trunk's website. Click on the Twitter icon on the top right of the page. Once in Twitter, you can see pics on the left hand side of the screen. Click on any one of those and you can scroll through the album.

Jake's been using an Orange head lately, along with some Marshalls and a EVH head. He was using an EVH on the show with a vintage Marshall cab with greenbacks. But that was all brought in for him. Sounded AWESOME in the room, hopefully that translates to the show recording.

I'm assuming you were there. (?) If so, how did he play?

Thanks.

It was really cool. Not exactly the Jake from the Ozzy days, but very cool nonetheless. More bluesy and melodic, but still a few tricks up his sleeve! Great tone in the room. We had to turn up that EVH really LOUD to open up that amp and let it really do it's thing. The EVH amps are cool, compressed when quiet but HUGE when loud.

I'm pretty sure the Dusk CD was the demo tracks for a third CD that never was finished or released and I think it is the best thing they did. It is so raw and real sounding and Jake gets his best tones I have ever heard by far on that album. Just sounds like a kick ass Super Lead. I love it!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like a great rehearsal!

"Lord knows, I've tried..." kind of haunting when you think about it, with Ray Gillen passing before Dusk was ever released.."Fire lasts forever" is another good one...saw em live back in 90...
