I would say that almost anyone on here has more talent than Simon...at least we can tune a guitar or play a scale in key or make up a riff or SOMETHING...WTF has Simon ever done ? What qualifies him as a judge of anything ?

As a Brit, Simon has tapped into something many americans can't ... "Marketing".

He's a total dick but he's worth about 2.2 Billion.

Am I hearing things or does anyone notice several of the solo parts in the first two songs sound out of key, like a half step off? I don't know the tunes well enough but I noticed this in several places? Singer sounds a lot better that is for sure. Bass player looks a little bored too....sounds good though, I like his bass tone.

Yeah it kinda does to me as well. It's hard to say, because his picking doesn't seem overly accurate in general. Oh well, he's a legend, and it's cool to see him out there doing it again.

wow. tough crowd here . Geez guy hasnt played out in 20 years and one shitty gig, with only 2 hours rehearsal going into it, total, he's crucified. Nice loyalty. I will say he played in his old home town last night and killed it. It can only get better. I didn't see or hear much glitches from the singer either, then again, I also didn't see any alcohol being consumed on stage. Jakes Flip Tube Echo pedal took a dump at soundcheck and he ended up borrowing my Wampler Tape Echo pedal..shy guy yet super cool. Great tone too, louder than sin!

I dunno, I didn't touch a guitar for 7 years once, and within 2 hours I could do everything I could before, but even with more passion because I missed it so much. I tend to not buy the whole, "I've been out of it for a long time, and forgot most of what I used to know," line. I guess we tend to expect more from our heroes, and in a way we should. They are supposed to be pros, and they are to be held to a higher level of greatness IMO. Otherwise, what's the point to them being in the limelight? May as well just have a local dude fill in who could do a technically better job.

Having said all that, I would go see Jake in a hot minute if I could, and I would prolly love every second of it. On a forum where we critique things though, I tend to be honest even to a fault. I did say that it was cool to see him out there doing it again, and I meant that, but he isn't the Jake of old right now. I hope he will get there, but he's not in his 20's anymore, and he may be doing as well as he will be able to.

He still looks cool playing that white Charvel though, even if he isn't a young kid.

For the record, I'm NOT picking on Jake. I'm glad to see him back...but I want him back with guys that want to be up there and are hungry and not doing it to rub elbows with someone famous hoping it somehow rubs off on them, which is what this bunch of guys looks like. Maybe it was one bad gig, but in today's world with the internet shit travels fast AND far. They can't really afford to fuck this up. For the singer to be telling the audience he's drunk is silly. Jake has industry recognition. Use it and grab some guys that look and sound the part, want to be there for the right reasons, and are hungry to make it...the rest will follow.

Did I miss something here? Jake was not afflicted with some medical condition AFAIK. He had it all and disappeared for 20 years to do who knows what, that doesn't mean we all have to embrace whatever crap he puts together. As for Guitar Hero status, I'd reserve that for people with more accomplishments and skills. Even in his hey day he only had a handful of cool tunes. Hopefully he gets better, but right now...no. Throw a dart and I can find a better guitar slinger/songwriter, including many "unknowns" who frequent this board.

Everyone is different. I played in the same band for most of my music life ( a long friggin time). I can honestly say that if I had to play with them tonight after not playing with them for 3 years, I wouldn't be able to do one damn song from start to finish. Keep in mind that I have walked around for 15 minutes looking for my keys while they are in my hand.

I wish I had your muscle memory, but alas I don't….not even close.

I think he sounds good in this video. Jake E. Lee is playing great and it's just awesome seeing him play but I would rather hear him through another amp. Not really digging the 5150 III. It's not bad but I find it a bit harsh, bright sounding.

Yeak OK but who made them under rehearse if that is the excuse dejour? Who forced their hand to play with only 2 or 5 hours or whatever of rehearsals? This is BS IMO. All the excuses??? Really? If this was a guy on this board and his own new band I don't think there would be all this defending of him or the band. People would simply say go back and woodshed and tighten it up until its better.

You rehearse so when you play out you're good and tight and people don't pay to hear you not be that good (suck or semi suck). That's the way it works. I have put together 6 or 7 bands in my time and we grind it out until we're good and tight and I record the rehearsals so we can hear it back and be critical and we always improve from that. And you don't play out until you're ready, period. And we all worked full time day jobs too.

Yeah there will be mistakes in the first few gigs but the defending of less than stellar performance by a guy who has a shot (second shot) none of us may ever have and to go out less than stellar is just that...less than stellar. BTW I thought his performances on TMS just sucked beyond belief and all the excuse mongers were on those posts as well. Its not about being super tough or super critical, just some of us (a lot of us) have done the new band thing and know what it takes and what needs to happen BEFORE you go out in front of an audience and we are nobodies, so someone of Jakes rep needs to make sure its as good as it can be. And it seems clear to me that didn't happen here.

I have no particular feelings about Jake and his band either way and wish him well but all the excuses in the world are just that, excuses. If you're going to do this and have a second shot give it 110% put in the work and the time and get the job done, and sorry but that is not what I hear on these vids. I hope it gets better and wish Jake and the band good luck.

I was talking about ability, not about remembering tunes FWIW. Also, a national act should be WELL rehearsed at any rate. They shouldn't sound like a band on an open jam night.

A handful ? REALLY ? WOW ! Maybe with drunken coked out Ozzy picking the riffs, but both Badlands albums are solid back to back...there's not a bad tune on either disc !

A few that were at the show commented on Jake's tone and the consensus seems to be his tone was stellar.
