Jake E Lee's new band footage from Whiskey Show last night!

His tone live with Badlands was more compressed ..it sounded good but this sounds pretty damn good to my ears as well. He is using a bit of chorus here for the Ozzy stuff too which really works for that sound.

Drummer still has issues though! Bass player looks like he is waiting for a smoke break but he sounds great.

I was talking about ability, not about remembering tunes FWIW. Also, a national act should be WELL rehearsed at any rate. They shouldn't sound like a band on an open jam night.

If I hadn't played in 7 years and picked up a guitar it would be so frightening that someone would shoot me for sure. lol. God people want to shoot me now :)

I love you man! ;) Well I play metal mostly, (well that's what my originals are, and what I do when I play out),...... so having my 1st ex wife make me leave the best band I had ever been in, (while still in my 20's), and cut my cool ass, long, curly hair off, (which has now slid half way down my back), so I could have kids, only to take all my money and pride away for 7 years,..........<<< actually seemed to make me a better metal player lol! I will say that I did however forget how to play More Than a Feelin' and Don't Stop Believin' though hehe!

It's close to the tone he had in Badlands which I dig.
Ahh, no . It's close to Ultimate Sin in a nasally, trebly sort of way. Badlands was much warmer and more organic.
it's my opinion that I like the tone he's getting.I'm sure it was probably much fatter in person
+1
not only are people commenting on audio captured by a cell phone but they are comparing it to Badlands studio album

A few that were at the show commented on Jake's tone and the consensus seems to be his tone was stellar.
I have the Badlands "Dag The Giblets" video, and there are some live tunes from a gig in a hall where he sounds EXACTLY like the album, which would have been done in a studio with good mic pres and outboard gear in a "real" room etc...On that video he doesn't sound all nasally and trebely...nice and warm, fat.

^^^sounding better and better. I'm enjoying watching Jake attempt his rebound here, miles beyond what went down at TMS, we'll see if he gains momentum or not. No reason to be a total fanboi or a clueless hater, Jake is certainly noteworthy as a guitar hero (if you missed the mid-80's, play with a chorus pedal until you "get it")...it's fun seeing him back on stage whether or not he becomes a significant player again.

I can't hear why people are complaining about the tone..it sounds pretty awesome to me. I like the cut. Is that a bit of flange in there too for the ozzy stuff?

I'm digging his tone too. Sounds great.

Singer is still pretty dicey on the Bark at The Moon video, "a little pitchy dog"

I just think it's overly bright and a bit "pinched" or nasally. Seems to lack bottom end. It sure cuts through though... I just think I'm not big on the 5153, and it's just my opinion...if you guys like it, that's cool. I love him as a player...always have. I want to see him do well.

This is entire show from San Diego.....much better

Thank you for posting this. That f---ing rocked!

Liked Jake back in the day, used to know everything off Ultimate Sin, Bark at the Moon. Last time I saw Jake was in the 90's with a singer that was terrible. Jake seemed like he hadn't touched a guitar at that point in a long time. Back then he had a wall of 5150's and they were all cranked.

Not too bad here. He never was that clean of a player, more on the sloppy side. Never cared for his tone much, too muddy and scritchy sounding.

I gotta say, some of the comments are pretty comical.

Bark at the moon...Jake sounds pretty good on what I call his flagship song....this is Jake that I like ;)

F yes!

Other than the short part he plays after the main solo before kicking back into the main riff, that rocked!

Did I miss something here? Jake was not afflicted with some medical condition AFAIK. He had it all and disappeared for 20 years to do who knows what, that doesn't mean we all have to embrace whatever crap he puts together. As for Guitar Hero status, I'd reserve that for people with more accomplishments and skills. Even in his hey day he only had a handful of cool tunes. Hopefully he gets better, but right now...no. Throw a dart and I can find a better guitar slinger/songwriter, including many "unknowns" who frequent this board.
A handful ? REALLY ? WOW ! Maybe with drunken coked out Ozzy picking the riffs, but both Badlands albums are solid back to back...there's not a bad tune on either disc !

There is a third one, "Dusk" it is pretty much all live recorded in a studio as a demo for their record company. It is a great album to listen to.

Including yours

I remember when Thump had that guys signature guitar and it was badass! Other than that, those clips sound absolutely terrible. I saw that guy play with Ozzy back in maybe 99/00 and I thought he played Ozzy's stuff really well. This stuff sounds like a bad band i'd see at a local bar.

I dunno man… He sounds pretty precise on this version of "Crowley" from '84:

That doesn't sound that precise to me. The left and right hand are just not quite together on the faster stuff. Guess we just have different definitions of clean / precise playing.

Not really...he's actually my favorite Ozzy guitar player (fire away), but he wasn't close to the "tightest". :D

My favorite too. I never got the Randy worship, too thought out like a road map...EVH always had "it" whatever "it" is...that passion or reckless abandon, of course he's a one trick pony, but it's a great trick.
