James Hetfield at GC

I like it that he has the bracelet his daughter made for him on

I have several of those :)

I've been a Metallica fan since 85' and I think James was pretty straight until the Black Album tour. You could tell he became the rock star he never swore he would become. That obviously continued through the "Load" and "Unload" albums and really up until rehab. I mean, he missed his son's first birthday to hunt bears in Siberia for cryin' out loud.

With that said, he really has come full circle the past few years. I think he embraced his past and came to terms with Dave Mustaine, his thrash roots, etc. At his age, there is no way he will ever be that same guy. I'm in my 40's and can't imagine if I had to put on eyeliner and wear a bandana around my neck again just to fit in with my past.

I can certainly relate. I was never a drunk but I had mega-issues dudes. I was in and out of prison until I was 26 (4 years the first time and 2 years the last time) and was not a good guy. Now I am a family man with a stable career as a company exec. Something had to go and it was the old me. I am so much happier now. It wasn't an easy road to make positive change but I have come a long way.

I was going to say, how about a shout out to the real men out there.. guys like mudf00t who didn't have access to all the $ in the world or millions of adoring fans and just did it on their own without GC interviews. Those are the real role models for society. People who nobody knows but who change for the good of the next generation and keep them on the right path. (and by that I absolutely do not mean religion of any type. I just mean society in general)

Isn't that exactly why Hetfield is a good role model? BECAUSE of his fame and fortune? He touches a lot of lives. Not to take anything away from mudf00t at all, but he can't be a role model to people who don't know he exists.

Not sure why people need to try to find fault in anything and everything Metallica-related.

people get older and grow up, most people dont stay the same their whole life.
family becomes more important than a song or playing a guitar, nobody wants to be the douche bag thats immature and never grows up.
as a person gets older their thinking changes too.

This was actually one of the few interviews where I've liked him as a person.

Dude is calm and centered and very obviously in love with playing guitar. Nothing wrong there.

I thought it was a great interview.

I like him better as the asshole who wrote Master of Puppets.

hahaha
me too
garage days was the last thing they did that gets my approval.
i saw alcoholica on the kill em all for 1 tour, ride the lightning tour and opening for ozzy when MOP dropped.
as they got more $$$$ more fame and attention the music inversely nosedived.
they were able to put out 3 lps and a few ep's before they started blowing chunks.

most "great bands" follow the 6-8 album arc of greatness.

I met james 2 times back in the day and he was an aggressive bossy dude,i could easily see how him and mustaine went to fighting.

i could give a fuck about his family or his kids or religion.
just make heavy fucking thrash again dude.

pfffftttttttt metallica is finished ,stick a fork in them.

oh and yea
cliff took it with him

Some of ya just miss this guy.............

Well I thought it was a great interview until the last 10 seconds when I realized it was just an ad for GC and to sell his Sig Guitar.

Although I am sure there was some truth to what he said, it was still an ad.

I haven't seen many interviews with any of these guys. I honestly stopped giving a shit about Metallica well over a decade ago.

He does seem cool, smart, nice and all that in this video but it still bothers me when I see people say he has the "best right hand in the business". No he does not lol....Maybe in 1981
