James Hetfield

I had the pleasure of meeting Hetfield backstage after a concert back in '97. He shook my hand with a big smile, talked with me about his Explorer and hot rods, and spent the next 2 hours (after a full concert) hanging out and laughing with his other fans that were there.
I agree that he does have a level of presence around him that no one else I know has. Above and beyond that, he was a genuinely nice guy that treated his fans with a lot of respect and seemed to really enjoy talking with all of us.
Ever since that day I guess you could call me a fan boi. But meeting a rock star of his fame and him making it possible for me to sit and talk with him like we're just two guitar players sharing some opinions really made me respect and like the guy as a human being too.

[DO NOT talk to him about work though. Then you will see another side of him. He does love cars and car shows. Can't remember exactly who it was. My Wife knew someone who met him at a car show. James was very clear when he requested they do not ask him any more questions about Metallica.

James: "I said NO more questions about Metallica."

sah5150: "Ok, then why don't you just go fuck yourself, James, because the only reason I even know who the fuck you are is Metallica..."

I definitely put him up there with the first tier great frontmen.

Jimi
Morrison
Ozzy
Lemmy
Lynott
Jaymz
Plant
DLR
Freddie
Daltrey
Jagger
Lennon
Johnny

Dudes with one name.

I could care less about Mettalica though. The first 3 records were pretty epic, after that, i dunno.

And your accomplishments musically are better how?
You're the joke.

When I grew up my dad was very critical of the "modern" music that I loved and said a lot of terrible things about the people writing and performing that music. I decided very early on that I would not be the same way and I'm happy to say, I'm not, but one poor assumption I made was that artistic types (musicians, etc.) were more like me.

After many years of listening to the hyper-critical, closed minded opinions of my artistic peers I've now come to the conclusion that I'm wrong.

I never got big into Metallica but Hetfield a joke? That makes me laugh, out loud. Kirk is not a joke either and yes, I realize he's addicted to the wah.

Not being funny Jay Cooperman. Do you seriously have a split personality disorder or are you just a sick twisted tool? Truetone is posting some decent stuff and then you come over to Chrisrocks and WTF

Wicked song writer, performer, looks the part.... but in all honesty, always seemed like a bit of a dick to me. Doesn't take away from the band's material. The early stuff is great. Never had this urge to meet hetfield. Have seen enough of his comments live and backstage over the years to see what type of guy he is.

True

I think that Hetfield might still have a good country and/or acoustic album in him. Like Zakk Wylde's Pride & Glory.

I actually enjoyed Load, Reload, and Garage Inc.. I can't really listen to anything after that.

No denying it......Hetfield is an icon.

Great pic.

I have seen about 10 big bands in the last 2 years.

Nobody owned like Metallica.

35000 or so people drowned out the band during Sad But True.

It was epic...

I thought Metallica is who they are because of Hamett's unforgettable guitar solos and perfect vibrato and pitch?

Joke?

Arguably the greatest front-man of all time

If it's a joke....Where's the punchline? ....I don't get it?
