Joe Bonamassa takes digital amp on tour; Paul Gilbert switches to digital amp...

Not really sure what you mean. Regardless, the tonemaster sucks compared to it's tube counterpart. Digital stuff is all based on profit for the manufacturer, and convenience and cost savings for that of the consumer.

The Fryette probably saved it in this case. It is probably naturally more scooped with more fullness. The thin thing happens more with flat SS power amps.

Yeah, I’ve got those, too.

I can certainly say that either of those amps in the picture don’t add or take away anything from the modeler itself, but they do have a big difference in how they make speakers move, which is entirely independent of the modeler.

“It’s probably this or probably that”…..or, it probably just works.

The more time goes on and the more pearl clutching/handwringing I see around modeling the more certain I am that there’s some kind of perceived merit in being dissatisfied with them. There’s certainly a HUGE gap in between what I read about them online and what I actually experience using them, which doesn’t happen with amps, pedals or guitars, oddly enough.

so you like those mellow blues

That's more like it.

As for Johnny, he was the real deal which is why he was able to back Muddy Waters on the Muddy "Mississippi" Waters live album. Same goes for Paul Butterfield and Mike Bloomfield....half the band was guys recruited from Water's touring group.

I just know in my own experience if I plug into a GT1000fx, I get the flat, thin, etc... people talk about. If I plug into a Mesa 2:90, I dont. It is much fuller and thicker.

Personally, I like both. I am sitting here recording NAM captures as we speak. I find NAM and ToneX to be very similar vs a tube amp + reactive load into IR.

I'm gonna add that both Paul Gilbert and the Bonermaster have absolutely terrible tone, too, so this isn't exactly the digital flex the article seems to think it is :hys:

They are both monster players, especially PG, but his tone has always been horrifying

Bonermaster has better tone, but is a much worse player than PG, so it kind of evens out

Paul's tone especially has been totally shit since he left Laney. That cutting trebly sound is what worked best with his style.
