I'm pretty sure he just uses the dsl to power the theramin (sp?)

In the latest Premier Guitar rig rundown Joe's tech confirms that Joe's main tone is offstage Marshall DSLs, green channel with Tube Screamer, and that the amps on stage are just for show or small tonal variations if Joe feels like something different from moment to moment.

Why not just have the DSL's up front like on the BCC DVD?

Who is he trying to impress with the vintage gear? The internet crowd?

Not me, I don't care. Either you can play and have tone or you can't and you don't.
Maybe he charges builders a fee to place their amp on his stage for a few months as props. He plays a few shows and the builder probably sells 100 amps once the pics get out.

I think it's more impressive that he can sound like he does with a $600 amp while the haters on TGP can't get their 2 Rocks to sound right while playing Mustang Sally with their cover band.

Isn't his tech a member here? Maybe he could set the story straight.
Yes...he's a friend and he was standing about two feet away from me when I took that picture. There's no story to set straight...I gave you the story.

Agreed, not a fan of having fake amps onstage with the real ones behind hidden. But this is BUSINESS, it's all about the MONEY....

Silly me...that must be a Marshall fridge sticking out behind behind the Dirty Shirley head (pic from last year's tour...taken by me)

Seems you are correct..my bad. I didn't see anything set up like that at the show I saw and I had a pretty good view..but not that close up. That's a nice Marshall fridge...

Joe's Strat tone > Joe's Les Paul tone

I prefer the Strat tone and I also prefer his Gigliotti tone to the Les Paul.

No problem. Also notice that the plexi on the end is the only "backline" amp that was turned on...the others weren't even hooked up.

On a side note, he used that amp in the lower left of the pic for one song (paired up with a Gibson jazz box...ES-350 IIRC) but I can't remember what it was...65 Amps or /13 maybe?

I still dont understand why he hides the DSL.
I think its always about the $ but I dont get it here.
Out of the five visible amps arent only one or two current production models?

Yes, but think about it. By having killer un obtainable gear like trainwrecks , real 59 bursts, plexis, etc it gets him many gear hound guitarists as fans and he becomes known for his magical tone. Now when he gets endorsements for a wah pedal or sig les Paul many fans will buy whatever he endorses. If he just came out playin a epi lp with a dsl head it would lack that wow factor that impresses guitar geeks, land down the line less $$.

THIS and THIS!

That clip sounded stellar, I wish he would get back to his old basic sound.

THIS, why wouldn't a working musician take endorsements and get paid?? The Lynch motto can work for everyone and i see no reason why they shouldn't take advantage of it. All the boutique stuff looks cool and is part of the image!

OK..I saw him last night. Could'nt get a good shot from 1994 flip phone but left to right..Victoria combo..used for Greg Martin guest song/jam. Main back line left to right Dumble combo, Dumble head, Van Weeden x 2, Jubilee x 2. Looks like the switchers where back by the amps. I peeked at the pedal board, did'nt have a good view past the floor monitors. Looked like cabs where a bit smaller than the logo cabs of the past. Screens still used in front of the cabs. He had the TC rack piece facing him and fiddled w/ one the parameters at one point.
Mike to took time out to say hey. He's super busy this run with 20+ guitars to manage. Good sets w/ the acoustic>electric. Same compliment of vintage pauls, the firebird paul, and the EBMM's.
Not a fan boi by any stretch but I have caught him since Bloodline and it's always a tone treat. Spoiled this year as the last show was Idol and Steve Stevens killer rig/tone.
Cheers
Shawn
