John Mayer proving his haters right :D

I actually John Mayer, but I am not sold on him being the 'next' Eric Clapton. That's what rubs me the wrong way, suddenly he is supposed to be some blues god, not in my book.

I'm not a fan and I don't have any of his CD's but my wife has downloaded some of his music and I caught part of a concert on Palladia a good while back where he played several styles of his music so I am familiar with what he is capable of. While not my cup of tea I would by no means say he is a hack or a terrible player. I've been playing way too long to know what good playing and bad playing is. A players style not being what blows my skirt up but that by NO MEANS equals him being a terrible player.

I saw him live at MSG from up close and what I saw was a guy who was scant more than a second rate version/copy of SRV and Dave Matthews IMHO. Can he play? Sure but to be honest, my opinion is that you can go to any major city and find dozens of guys like him. My overall opinion of him is that hes nothing more than a product of good marketing but thats just me.

I dont dig his acoustic stuff and his electric stuff has all been done before and ALOT better. I dont base my dislike of someone on if theyre a douche or if their style doesnt appeal to me, I judge them soley on their music and that alone... Whats amazing is discussions like this when someone doesnt like something. The Kneejerk reactions are that its due to being a hater, being Jealous as well as bunch of other assumptions that dont have much basis.

Like I said it wasn't that someone didn't like JM's style.... it was suggested that the OP go somewhere else post about a guy he digs followed with normal piling on. Pretty lame if you ask me.

Also IMHO it is proof there is a certain mind think in these parts which is fine but it's dumb to deny it.

Look through the thread Todd, ONE guy said that he shoudnt post JM Threads and ONE guy agreed. The rest of the people that chimed in regularly voiced their opinion of Mayer myself included. If you care to look, I even supported Joeys right to post his love for Mayer or whomever he wants, just as much as its my right to offer my opinion.

How that constitutes piling on or how you can extrapolate that to say that its proof that a certain mind think exists around these parts is beyond me. Feel free to call it dumb but I think its equally as dumb to suggest it. If you want to say that there are alot of people people here who hate Mayer, than Im more than willing to agree with you...

I like the guy. Dude's a good, clever, pop songwriter, with a great voice. He makes the guitar sing. Are there better guitar players? Of course, but sometimes I'm in the mood for a pop song, and Derek Trucks/Joe Bonamassa/Philip Sayce, etc. don't do that.

Bonamassa is a great player, and some of his songs are cool (The Ballad of John Henry is my fave album by him). Having said that, he lifts so many Eric Johnson licks, it's unnerving.
