I have strongly been considering recapping my 2553 50W silver jubilee. Mine still sounds great, but so far I have never regretted recapping an amp.

Good to hear that Marshall did a nice job on the reissues. I still wish they had tweaked some things, like adding a volume for the clean mode and making the rhythm clip footswitchable. Mine was modded for an extra volume knob on the clean and it is very useful.

Only thing I don't like about my 2553, is that it is really not a low volume amp, it wants to rock and be cranked. I am not able to do that much these days. :(
I run my output master dimed, so I get that power tube saturation right away. Sounds great at low volumes. If you need a clean it's hard, because now it's cranked but at home it's no concern. At a gig both volumes are around 7.

Wondering if your experience with the reissue being among the best jubilees you have tried, might be due to the caps being new on the reissue.

Could be, but I'm not one to automatically change caps on vintage amps. I did it once, no difference imo. All Jubes I've had all sounded great, with minor differences. The coolest thing about this amp is being able to try any 2 pairs of octal power tubes in it..opens up so many more tonal options. But the 2555x is very consistent with the original...unlike the 2203x that while good, doesn't compare to say a really good 82 2203.

You lost me as soon as you wrote, you can get there with a boost, opposed? Thank God I play on the Mesa.

Ha ha well I boost my 2C+ as well...sacrilege right? Most Marshalls need a boost or two, always have. Unless its modded. Boosted Marshalls have been a time tested tone, on countless recordings. There's really no arguing against it. You might like your Mesa better, 2C+ is an iconic amp and I love playing mine. I really love to slave it through 4 cabs with my Strategy 400...steamroller of sound. But if you want a good Marshall in the arsenal, the new Jubilee is very good.

I never used a boost with my jubilee. Thought it sounded great without one and thought it had plenty of gain for an early Metallica type tone

Does anyone use the Rhythm clip on the Jubilee? I have been recently trying to use it more and its pretty cool, but very hard to use on the fly as it isn't footswitchable and if you do footswitch to the lead, weakens the signal.

So I have been looking into the Alexander Silver Overdrive, which I thought at first was based on the lead channel of the silver jubilee, but found out its actually based on the rhythm clip.

Electrolytic caps only have a 20 to 30 year life. Now granted the ones in 80's Marshalls are better than say the ones they used in vintage Fenders from the 60's and 70's that had paper on the ouside, but I have never been sorry for recapping a vintage amp. That said, I don't consider 80's Marshalls to be vintage amps yet. Still I am strongly considering recapping my 2553.

I have been servicing a couple of red knob Fenders from the early 90's and they both had blown Electrolytic caps. They were Illinois branded caps which aren't the best though.

Just curious, still liking the GE 6550/SED EL34 combo the best?

So far yes. Ive interchanged the SED 34s with Siemens 34s and I get the same result, both very good with Marshalls. The 6550s really add some nice low end punch. The next favorite pairing is putting in a pair of KT90s with the 6550s, more of a metal thing with less warmth. But still very cool.
