I have a Randall KHX loaded with v30's and t75's. I've heard that these can be picky heads. A speaker change is my only option without selling the Randall cab. Would a quad of Reaper 30's do it for me. They are supposed to be H30 clones and I heard that the EVH speakers are close.

Welcome to the club!

I think the amp sounds the best with either the EVH celestions or V30's. I like V30's in a band setting but the EVH's better at home w/out the band. I wasn't too keen on the 12T75's. CL80's sounded great also.

EVH 5153 4x12 cabs with their original speakers, g12 EVH. Sounds great at low volume. Sounds heavenly once the volume is past 10:00.
I have a 5153 head with a pair of their cabs.

Greenbacks or the EVH Sig speakers (Tweaked Greenbacks) are the way to go. Stay away from GT75s and V30s. Too modern sounding and they kill off a lot of tone in this amp.

The EVH cab works great, its the way to go plus it looks cool.

anybody tried some scumbacks w/ that head? think about maybe gettin the evhIII. got a 212 w/ the M55 and M75 scummies.

I'm using my 5150 III with a Mesa Recto 2x12 cab filled with 2 Scumback M75 65watters. Sounds glorious!!

The EVH cab is not possible right now. I might just get some Green Berets or Reaper 30's for the time being.

I run mine with either the 5153 cab, or a 2x12 with G12H30's .. sound great either way.

The Green Beret's are probably the closest speaker to what's in the EVH cab.

The only problem I see is that the 5150 III packs a punch and if you are playing live, you might over power that 100 watt cab. That's why a lot of guys are using 2 cabs. For home use it should be fine. If you can gig with only one cab, I'd consider the ET65 as well (WGS). They sound pretty good.

The WGS Reaper 30's are H30 clones. Somebody around here said that they compared the EVH speakers with Greenbacks and H30's and the EVH sounded very close to the H30's and not the Greenbacks.

v30s or greenbacks... I might be one of the few that doesnt care much for the EVH speakers.... I like regular chinese greenbacks more, even with the evh amp.

The warehouse greenberets are very close in sound to the chinese greenbacks... Ive had both

I'm leaning towards the Green Berets. I would like to sale my Randall cab and pick up the EVH cab, but IMO the Randall XL series cabs are some of the best out there. Can this EVH cab be any better than my XL? I don't believe so. I think my best bet is a speaker swap. This is one of the more confusing gear purchases I've done lately. All amps should be voiced to V30's damnit!

Get the matching speakers, doesn't sound as good with the other speakers, including per Rola greenbacks I have!

My favorite is the matching cab. However, I had a 4x12 cab with Scumback M75/H75's and it sounds awesome. I also like my V30/G12T75 cab with the amp. If you are going WGS, consider the ET65's. Those sound great. Green Berets would be cool too.

There's no better cabinet with the 5153 head than the 5153 4x12s. So, they will be better than the Randall XL.
I have now 8 different 4x12 cabinets, including vintage, new, boutique and rare, all with different speakers. They are the cabs I've found to be the best ones, both in construction and tone, for me and for the studio I have. The EVH 5153 4x12 beats them all when using with the 5153 head.

Can 1 of the matching EVH brand cabs handle the power this amp puts out at band volumes?

Yes. You will not play with both master volume and gain on 10 on any of the three channels. I bet you'll never play with the master volume of the channels 2 and 3 past noon. Even if the Master is on 10(!), and the gain on 6, you're not pushing the amp, and cab, to it's limits.

I'm not saying your wrong, but I was under the impression that many greenback cabs (power rating 100 watts) have been blown by 100 watt Marshall heads (as an example). I'd be willing to be that I could blow the speakers in a single greenback 4x12 by maxing my Superbass.
