Can 1 of the matching EVH brand cabs handle the power this amp puts out at band volumes?

Yes. You will not play with both master volume and gain on 10 on any of the three channels. I bet you'll never play with the master volume of the channels 2 and 3 past noon. Even if the Master is on 10(!), and the gain on 6, you're not pushing the amp, and cab, to it's limits.

I'm not saying your wrong, but I was under the impression that many greenback cabs (power rating 100 watts) have been blown by 100 watt Marshall heads (as an example). I'd be willing to be that I could blow the speakers in a single greenback 4x12 by maxing my Superbass.

Of course you can blow it with a Super Bass with all the controls cranked to 10! I do have a 67 Super Bass too, and know the damage they can do.
But I don't believe you would use a 5153 head with all the controls maxed.

Now tell me this, are you talking about a Super Bass or a 5153 on the line above?
Cheers

I think you're right. I was trying to illustrate with an extreme example.

A tech just told me that most speakers will handle double their RMS wattage rating. Therefore, I think a single greenback cab is safe with a 100 watt head as long as the head isn't totally maxed out.

Now I want a EVH cab. LOL

I think it depends on what you're playing. If you're playing in lower tunings, greenbacks tend to not be able to handle the low end. Has anyone tried K100's with it?

Go lower than an 8 string Ibanez? Have you tried the 5153 head and cab, third channel, with master at 11:00 clock? Never heard a better amp(in every way and tried over 16 amps and cabs combination) for that guitar.

People have been using 100w Marshall amps for years with 4x12 cabs loaded with 20 watt speakers with no problems. The EVH cabinet will handle the 5153 all day long.

I just know GB's farted out with a Recto. I haven't tried with with the 5153 though.

What MR MARCUS asked was about the best cab/speaker setup for a 5153 head. I'm not gonna tell him what sound best with my Fender Bandmaster, or my Vox AC30, or my tweed Bassman, or my Dual Rectifier, etc. I'm also not gonna say what doesn't sound good with the mentioned amps. He asked "best with 5153 head". So, anything "best" with any other amps, or "not good" with any other amps would not answer his question.
Regular production greenbacks and Recto is one setup. EVH cab/speaker and the 5153 head is a completely different setup.
Comparing a regular greenback to a Heritage EVH or the G12H it's like saying faded "les pauls aren't that good" while the guitar in question is a Les Paul Standard. The regular greenback is an excellent speaker for classic rock(and I have a cabinet loaded with them for this purpose), but it won't come close to the EVH Celestion in terms of handling the low end and staying tight at loud volume.

I checked the dimentions of the EVH cab and then I measured my Randall cab and they are exactly the same. I may just get a quad of the EVH speakers. It doesn't look like I will find an EVH cab on the cheap. A guy on ebay has an ivory one for sale for the same price that you can get one new.

Keep an eye open here(Rig Talk), The Gear Page and places like Craigslist.
I've bought both EVH 4x12s I have from the same seller. He sold me both cabs, in brand new condition for $950.00, and delivered them to my place. He was asking $500.00 each, which I think it's a bargain for this cab.
The EVH cab might be the same dim as a lot of other cabs, but what makes them good is the wood, thickness, grille cloth, the hardware and the way the cabinet is put together. Once you take one apart you'll know why. They are the best built production cabs on the market right now.
Trust me, I do have quite a few different 4x12s at the moment, and the EVHs are getting the most use out of all of them.
I do apologize for hitting on the same key for sometime, and I don't want to sound like a dick, which I'm probably sounding after my third post here :D , but these cabs just completely changed my mind about "only high powered speakers are good for metal".
They do soudn amazing, and they are built like tanks!

If I could find one for $500 I would ba all over that. Metalhead is trying to sale a quad of the EVH speakers for $500 used and the complete cabs for $850 each. I've seen them go for $900 new. I don't have the head yet. I will have it Tuesday and I will obviously try it with the V30/T75 x-pattern that I have now and also the H100's that I have. You have me thinking that I need to wait around for a deal.

YES!!! Just found a used EVH cab for $550 shipped. I just have to talk them into taking paypal now.
