I’ve played and owned a bunch of 2C+ and ++ amps. There was one that stood out above all the rest. It was either a factory upgraded 2C+ with 105 transformer before it was sold or it came back for the + upgrade when they first started doing them. Mike B couldn’t determine. Either way, this amp shined above all the others. It just had “that” sound. Like a dummies it was figured that if it sounded that great as a 2C+, it would be insane as a ++. Well, nope! It was never the same. The only difference between all of the other amps was that it didn’t have reverb. I even had a red stripe Mark III without reverb that killed.
In the end I sold off all of the 2C++ amps and now I own a Mark IVa.
I believe it. My first was a IIC HRG that I had Mike upgrade to a +, and then months later to a ++. I'll give you a guess which iteration sounded the best..
But then, my factory IIC+ DRG that I had Mike upgrade to a ++ was AMAZING. Best amp I ever played till I got the IIB Coli.
...So yes- there really is a difference amp to amp. All IIC+ sound good, but some of them are magic.
