MF is good as far as taking stuff back and customer service.
The main issue with buying stuff online is that it's in a box, in a warehouse and nobody looks at it. It comes from wherever and if it cracks in 1/2 inside the box, the only person that is going to know about it is you, when you open it.
That said, when I purchase a guitar online, it's usually from Sweetwater. I know their 800 point inspection is complete BS, but they do take the instruments out of the box and take pictures of that exact instrument. I mean it can get damaged on its way to you, but if it comes from MF, chances are it's coming from China, Korea or wherever, to MF then to you and nobody looks at it. Amazon is famous for that. I ordered a cheapo Danolectro $300 POFS and when it arrived it had a different headstock on it.
I usually will not buy an expensive instrument over the net. I'll drive up to 4 states away if need be, if I want it bad enough.
When shopping on EBAY, I demand pictures of the instrument. Not a stock picture from the manufacturers website. No pics, no sale. I also do not deal with the box stores on Ebay. I deal with an actual shop, the same type of B+M I bitched about earlier and call them and have them look over the instrument.
