I see from your sig that you have a rev blue uber, suprised you kept that over the 101b. I've got one I bought off of 232 cap about 3 months ago. I like it okay but I will definitely be getting rid of it some time in the next yr when I get somewhat motivated. Would of rather had the twin jet in hindsight.

Don't have it yet...bought it off another Rig-Talker. just wanted one again. Ive had a few Ubers since 2002. It's a love/hate thing! Haha

I've had 2 Twin-Jets and the REV-Blue is much better!

Sharkdiver what power tubes do you suggest, I just ordered a quad of the sovtek 5881s as one of the original 4 is going bad. Kinda wonering if I should have gone with the more expensive Gold Lion kt66s.

I've had about 10 SLO's over the past 9 years and I've tried a handful of Power Tubes...the ones that sound the best and I always go back to are the Sovtek 5881/6L6WGC "wafer bottoms". That's what Soldano uses from the factory and they just sound great. Lots of punch and even tones. The KT66's will be less gainy with a bigger bottom end...not really "depth" wise but just fuller sounding. I didn't like the KT66 that much and most other guys who try them seem to always go back to the 5881's as well.

I've got 3 amps. One with KT66s, one with 5881s and one with winged C 6L6s. All are great for what I use them for. I would disagree that most who try 66s go back. Most long term SLO guys I know use 66s. Maybe because they are old and mellow now,    .5881s aren't what the amp was originally designed around.

5881s are the most raw and aggressive. I use chinese pre tubes with these. NOS with the KTs and the SEDs. Obviously that effects the tone as well.

I think I made the right choice on the 5881s since I'm only 40 yrs old and not mellow like you old guys   that like the KT66s. Funny that you refer to some of you guys as "long term SLO guys" ....make it sound as if you guys have some sort of affliction :D

Well 40 is old.    If you got your amp first year, when you were 15, you'd be a long term SLO guy too. ;) Even if you got it at 25 or 30. :D

There's just no getting around the massive tone and output of an SLO. Period, end of story. There's not another amp on the market that has the tonal character and control. It has a very distinct and identifiable sonic space.

Love the SLO...not sure why I don't have one

One of the best live tones that I ever got was with a borrowed SLO/P90 Goldtop combo...simply crushing

great amps...I never got it until I got to mess with one for a few days

You rat bastards are making me want another SLO.....fuckers.....

Saving for one half way there!!
How is the Slo at lower volume?

decent at low volume. especially if you have played it loud and know the feeling...meaning some of its magic remains at low volume butmay not be that apparent unless you recognize it........ The louder it gets. the bigger the gap between it and many other amps. It is other worldly when cranked

Got a SLO in about week ago and what is low volume with this amp? Is low volume 1,2,3, or 4 on the overdrive output knob? Its a killer sounding amp for sure.

Just curious, but when you guys are gigging with your SLO, are you playing the Overdrive channel most of the time, or do you use the rhythm channel for some stuff?

I just played my first gig with mine tonight, and loved it - but, to me, the Overdrive channel is just so much better than the rhythm channel (not that it's bad. . .but the Overdrive is just THAT good.).

Hell i knew it was you playing but you're being too generous, you were ripping the fretboard to shreds and it sounded KILLER

I was researching some peters clips and came across that one, and i was like holy hell i never knew Josh owned a peters

Dude.....you're being nice....I was DRUNK....seriously....we kept having to clear the beer cans off the table so it wouldn't block the camera

As I recall, the Cornford that Will had was my favorite....I don't even know where those videos are....must be on his channel....I would have deleted them a long time ago

if you could remember something from that long ago, be completely brad-king-vodka-shitfaced, AND still play excellent all at the same time, i think i just found a new hero

Picking aside i looked at the channel and sure enough theres a cornford vid as well - it must be Will's channel because they are all there after all of these years

Edit...found the Cornford....liked this one the best of all the amps we played, that day

I just received and therefore just played my first SLO last Thursday.

All I can say is HOLY SH*T!!

I played a Soldano hot rod or something many years ago and wasn't significantly impressed, so I didn't get gas for a SLO, thinking it would be the same. All I have to say is the SLO is NOTHING like the others. It is vastly superior.

My "new to me" SLO is a 10th anniversary (I think that means '97) in Clapton Gray with KT66's. I haven't heard anything like it, ever...and I have a bunch of other heads and pre-amps.

I did just get it, literally, so I have no idea about other tube options, or anything, I just know that this thing KILLS  I can't believe I hadn't heard one until now. I have been awakened...honestly I am a bit nervous when others say they have 4 or 5 SLO's. Or have owned 10...that doesn't bode well for my bank account going forward

Bottom Line, have a great time with your SLO, I know I am having a ball...oh yeah, BTW I feel like the tones are excellent at lower volumes, yet open it up to 5-7 on the master and OMG!!

Josh you play better drunk   :hys:

joking man

Maybe i am being partial, but i have also played a SLO. I really dug the Peters alot more in those videos compared to the others surprisingly enough.
