Great story man. I've been trying to drop 20 to get to your weight now, have been an avid weightlifter but now at 50 I find my shoulders hurt whether I'm lifting plates or 245. But a little Ibuprofen goes a long way..I've gone to what I used to do for diet, Protein shakes and 1 balanced meal daily during the week and do whatever on the weekends. Seems to work for me.

Congrats to you on your life change!

Very inspiring man! I'm glad you posted this because it lets people know that everyone has something going on in their lives So many of us here on the forum have watched the tone comparison videos you have done in the studio and love them!! :) I used to watch those and fear I would go on a shopping spree and end up homeless. :)

Back in 2012 I was working out and at the top of my game and ended up getting a small inguinal hernia. Got surgery. Two years later, the other side went. Got surgery. My insides haven't been "normal" since and add to that other "getting older" things like pains, high sugar, etc. and easy to feel like crap and get frustrated.

Making music is what makes me happy and I have dove into that. I'm glad you are getting into that again. I try to tell people that don't do their own recordings, that they are missing out on one of the most creative and fun things for guitarists. Even if nobody ever hears a song other that the person who created it, you are still creating something. It is like a painting or other type of art.

In additional to music, I also go out and run a few times a week and play soccer in an adult league. I need to do some lighter lifting again. My goal was always to do some form of exercise every single day. I'm not at that point now but would like to get there.

Good luck as you continue this bro! All of us here on the forum go thru things and we understand and are here for you.

I am jealous of you guys that can actually do physical exercise.. I am dying to do some weights, shoot some pucks on net, or hit the heavy bag or some focus mitts but my back can't take any twisting at all... I tried bowling last night for an hour and i looked like a damn grandpa out there with the way I have to protect my back when I move. I am just 40.. pathetic. Then again i guess it is my own fault for 15 years of martial arts , heavy lifting, and not warming up before jumping on the ice. Ahh youth, so wasted on the young!

Awesome man, congrats! That's super admirable progress. Kudos.

My wife changed our diets a year ago, and boom! The weight just disappeared. A little regular exercise, and at 43....I'm close to being in the best shape of my life.

It is amazing what diet does.. even more than exercise. It is probably the reason I haven't gained 20lbs since not being able to workout like I used to. My wife is just more mindful of the type of food we eat and the quantities and I have managed to stay more or less the same. Diet really is 85% of it.

All we did is remove the processed box foods out our diet (we didn't eat much anyway), and cut out food with sugar in it. Unfortunately, that is insanely hard to do. I didn't realize that sugar is in almost everything in the grocery store. If you can do that, the weight melts away.

I lost over thirty pounds while drinking a few beers a day. Yeah, beer does not make you fat.

Good for you, James! Your amp shoot outs were a big help back when I was getting serious about tone! Glad you're doing great man. Let's hear some new stuff!

Rock on James. I always loved your voice on your gear demos. You have that radio voice

Honestly great job James. I have been struggle with this for years ears and never felt me a balance but this is true inspiration. Thank you

Hey James, didn't get a chance to post back and thank you for the reply. Thanks! I'm glad to see that coffee wasn't left out lol. I looked up the warrior thing and various places were saying leave out the coffee, man that would have been tougher for me than the fasting thing lol.

So what do you have for gear these days? I remember that you used to have a few interesting items.

Man that is an amazing transformation, congratulations on what you've accomplished. Impressive.

I've not heard of The Warrior Diet, done Paleo on and off for years. I am intrigued by the concepts behind the plan.

mostly a lurker here, but had to say good going man!

I've been there, and did the same thing you did.

it's a lifestyle, now. If I went back to my old diet/habits, the weight would return, of this I'm certain.

The trick is to keep up the healthy eating/living, and you should be able to stay this way for the rest of your life.

For those who don't know James...he's a stud! A few of years ago he put together an opportunity for Rig-Talk to play on one of his tracks. It was a blast and it came out really good! Check it out:
