JVM vs Rectifier

Think I've narrowed it down to these two amps, realized I don't to spend a bunch on an amp right now to get tones I'm looking for. Anyways, I'm thinking of going with the 410H, as far as Rectifiers, looking at the Roadster, 2 and 3 channel Triple Rectifier (for some odd reason I like it a ta bit better than the dual). I think I've ruled out a Mark IV and V just because I don't think I'll enjoy having to constantly tweak more and more, plus a lot of bands I like recorded with rectos.

Anyways, anyone own both or try then extensively? Thoughts? And also I would like some insight on what Recto you guys prefer. If anymore info is needed just ask.

I preferred the JVM a big deal more because it's way easier to get the right tones. With the rectifiers I still feel (like the Marks) you have to fiddle with it for hours on end to get a decent sound that isn't super fizzy. Overall the JVM has amazing features for the price.

I prefer the Recto, between those two amps. Actually, I'd take a Recto over just about any Marshall. I just prefer the "Mesa Sound" over Marshall.

I've owned three Rectifiers in the past two years; I could never really gel with them. However, I have a JVM now, and its freakin' awesome.

The JVM is ok. Owned it, thought it was good. My JCM800 '84 killed it.
I've owned a shit load of Mesa's, all fuckin amazing!

If you want bad ass Marshall tone, I'm afraid the JVM isn't where you should be looking.

You SHOULD be asking:

Mesa 2ch Triple Recto (or NEW 3ch)/Roadster Or an Orange Rockerverb 100

The Roadster is also an amazing amp! If you have the cash grab that instead. I just prefer the tone of the Older 2ch and the NEWER 3hc triple Recto's.

If I had to pick between any Mesa and an Orange Rockerverb 100, I'd go with a Roadking II.

mark series amps and rectifiers arent hard to use and im a retard

I had to use a mxr 10 band eq to even like my single rec. I really have to increase my mids and decrease tho lows A LOT. I really think I shouldn't have put jj tubes in it tho. They r just too dark for Mesa IMO. Never got into Marshall but from clips the JVM sounds awesome. I also think u should give orange a try as was already mentioned. Awesome amps.

They're both great amps in their own right but really don't sound very similar so I think you'll probably gravitate towards one over the other anyways and you shouldn't have any problem trying them both out in l.a.

if you want Marshall go with JVM
they really are polar opposite in term of tone and voicing ..

If you want a blend .Check out the Mesa Royal Atlantic ..British voiced but capable of the Rect type gain in the vintage high
Its a good compromise as would be a Bogner Shiva 20th

just my opinion

Mark IV. :D

In a perfect world (and having owned both a JVM 210 and Single Rec), I'd take the JVM for tone, and the Single Rec for build/durability.

This. Dialed my Mark in right away. And just because there are lots of knobs and sliders to adjust doesn't mean you have to mess with them.  it just means that when you want another sound you have more to work with.

You can say what you want, but I saw a guy play a JVM the other day on a gig around my home town and damn, he played cheap guitars and shitty effects and all, but he sounded just awesome. He had that 410 really dialed in to a T.

I don't like the feel of Rectifieres, whenever I play them, I feel like I'd have to turn them louder to get more spank and edge, but it ain't happening.

Hmmm...thanks for the info so far. I owned a Road King II that was great but it didn't knock me off my feet because I was expecting it to have more grind and aggressiveness hence why I want to give the Rec another try. I've always liked the JVM and the main issue I have with it is the overlap on a lot of the channels and how it can get pretty fizzy (IME) at lower volumes.

I want to like the Mark V but I feel it is just lacking something. I also have been looking at OD100SE+ and PT100 but there is the CAA graininess that I'm not in love with.

I love my Triple Recto. I've used Marshalls and Mesa's for years. Haven't owned a Mesa for quite a while. Picked up my Triple and am using it for everything. I LOVE it.

Oh, and I'm an idiot as well, but I still dialed in GREAT tones in minutes. Very easy to do. No fizz here.

You are comparing apples to oranges duder. Not even remotely the same amplifier.

Anything Mesa is better than any new production Marshall in the long run. FLAME ON!!! :D

I have to give the JVM some credit. It's a much better amp than I thought it was.

I played one a couple of times in music stores back when they first came out, and they didn't sound good and I got a really bad impression of them. But if you spend just a little time with them, and choose some good speakers, the JVM is a helluva amp. Really has a LOT of different cool sounds. Lots of tonal variety, even in the gainier areas.

It's hard to say with all the good points made so far. I'm still intrigued by the Mark V and CAA amps as well. They both have a lot of tones to offer. Picking an amp is fucking impossible!

You should check out a Diezel!!!

I have owned a Mark V and a JVM 410 and none of them made me happy.
With my Diezel Herbert MKI I am finally at home.

I owned a Herbert, got rid of it becuase it was a little much for me and the Hi Fi got a little old, but it was a killer amp. I wanted to give a VH4 or Hagen a try but I won't find one for a good price used.
