You are obviously a very cool and understanding guy and I'm not suggesting that you should have any ill will toward the builder/shipper, but besides SUBSTANTIALLY IMHO devaluing the guitar, I think no matter how good the repair, it will never be what you waited so long for and paid so much for. It's like if you custom ordered a new car and after waiting months and months to get it, it falls off the transporter in front of the dealership and gets smashed. Would you want them to fix it or would you want a new car? That guy owes you a new guitar. It's that simple in my opinion. I'm really sorry that happened to you. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Hold on.....

While I appreciate the "condolences", it is not my intent to throw the builder under the bus. Gil is without a doubt, the undisputed master luthier of '59 Replica's. The guitar itself is beautiful and the neck is to die for. I am sure it sounds and plays as good as it looks. I have talked to both parties and we will no doubt work something out amicably. As it stands now, it was my decision to send it off to someone I trust to make a repair worthy of this guitar. When it comes back, if I am not satisfied, it will be replaced. If it is something I want to keep, then there will be some restitution paid, as it clearly devalued my investment and there's the repair and shipping costs to recover which no doubt will be honored. Yes, I am extremely disappointed and gutted with the delivery of the guitar. The "lacking in packing" was a bad judgement call and all I can say he has been extremely lucky in the past with shipping. But, there's no hard feelings. Shit happens. We'll get it sorted out - just its gonna be another couple months before I can play the bitch. I know who all has new builds in play, and have advised them about considering sending their own case. Gil may be limited on what he can get due to location. Anyway, its all good.

Steve

Steve knows what he is doing. He'll get it fixed and then decide if a Yaron was for him in the first place. If it is he'll sell the repaired one and have Gil build him a new one. If not he'll sell it and be done. He'll be compensated either way for his troubles. As it stands now he has a sour taste in his mouth. That guitar better be incredible when its fixed to get the taste out.

wft, sorry about this mishap partner, been out of touch....i've been away for awhile on tour...

If u need it fixed by the best 3 cats on this planet, let me know, and i'll personally make sure it is done right. These dudes are the best there is at reconstructing guitars.
they repair Headstocks all the time, or i can commissioned a new neck build as per spec... Been there many times before.
pm me brother from another mother....

Well, I can't un-ring this bell or un-pop this cherry. It will be in Greg's hands in another day or so. I will wait until he tells me the extent of damage and what I can expect with the repairs. It's a complete break at the truss rod and really, the truss rod cover is the only thing holding it on. At least it didn't snap below the nut, and I think a repair won't hurt the tone at all. Some professionals have suggested the repair reducing value by about 40%. I will decide after hearing from Greg whether to send it back for a replacement or get compensation, based on the repairs.

All the comments about cases....one only assumes that a guy that makes these from a pile of wood should know a thing or two about shipping. Goes back to the ASS | U | ME thing.

This has humbled the hell out of me and totally fucked my week up.

I agree with most of the folks saying would send it back to the builder for a new guitar or neck to be installed.

Sorry to see this Steve! Things will get better for you.

Who would've known TGP would get so butt hurt at you sharing your crappy experience... Side note, nice to know there's a conspiracy going on here.  And I hope that whatever the result, you wind up with something you're happy with.

Never should've have encroached on your thead to begin with. It's an off topic, and seems to fit some agenda if you ask my personal opinion.

Enjoy your axe Pete!

Greg is a good dude (I used to go to his shop a lot)...didn't know he did that kind of work though. I hope it all works out

Man this sucks. Sorry to hear

It's going to take quite a few to numb the pain

in keeping with the spirit of the title

Tell us what you did to deserve this.....hopefully hookers and blow and one died or something?

Well I wish you good luck and if it makes you feel any better, you have my admiration for how you're handling things. I can honestly say that regardless of merchandise, a $10k purchase that arrived broken would put me into an unrecoverable tailspin.

That's heartbreaking. From everything I've read and seen online, Greg is the guy to go to. Can't wait to see pictures of the rehabilitated guitar.

Pathetic that intentions/motivations about sharing this came in to question on TGP. Jeez...sharing it was a PSA about Yaron's packaging for future buyers (and for them to plan accordingly) AFAIK.

You would think Yaron would make spec correct cases as well.

Go figure, the guy can trace the exact chemicals in the plastics of a real 59, do every little detail to the most anal degree, but can't pack a 10k guitar better then the average 4th grader. Unless you plan on 100% keeping this forever, I would send it back for either a full replacement , refund, or a new neck on because you will take a huge hit on resale no matter how great the repair is or who did it, and the kind of guys who buy these builds are not going to want one with a headstock repair. Sorry about that Steve, I know how much you were lookin forward to getting this. Hopefully Gil makes good on this to the fullest so u don't take the hit.

Here's why I was looking forward to this guitar. Check out Pete's video. Straight into a Plexi, it is pure and authentic tone that we all recognize.

THAT is what an LP should sound like through a good Plexi!
