Kiesel Gets A Cease & Desist From Gibson

Get ready for this... Since 1978, Gibson guitars has seen a retail markup of over 900%! To put this into perspective, a diamond that cost $6000.00 in 1978 is around $11,000.00 today. That's less than a 200% increase. If you can find a single product that has seen such an increase, please post your findings.

It's no longer just guitar manufacturers that are pulling this bullshit on consumers. Amplifier builders have joined the greedfest, with pricing that exceeds anything close to common decency. The music industry has always been replete with reprobates... but, this is an entirely new level of douchebaggery.

If you're looking for an excellent humbucker loaded guitar at a great price, pickup a used USA built Music Man. For playability and tone they exceed any Les Paul I've ever played or owned. You can still find used Marshall, VOX, Fender, and Ampeg brand amplifers at a great price as well.

New Gibsons are a ripoff IMO. The used market from the 1990-2009 is where it's at IMO.

and yes QC has not been great, but if I find a used one for the right price, I don't mind making a new nut and touching up the fretwork. As I can do it myself. I own four Gibsons and honestly love them. For me the ones I have offer some mojo for me that I don't find with some other brands. Call it bullshit or not I like the ones I have.

TBH I will never buy a post 2009 and obviously buy used. IMO YMMV, etc.

Makes me glad I’ve never owned a Gibson guitar. Not on purpose, I just have never liked anything they’ve built. It’s always seemed boring to me, but I know I’m in the minority with that.
I'll be in the minority with you :D

Outside of maybe the Thunderbirds, they don't do much for me either (both in models and company in general). And watching Jimmy Page and Ace Frehley run around with them on stage gave me tremendous wood as a kid. Probably before I could even get wood.

I was really considering a 2019 SG Jr, but this kind of crap really turns me off.

The glory days of online used gear purchasing are over. Most used instruments and amplifiers these days are "flip" listings, sourced mainly from Guitar Center, Same Ash, and Craigslist. If you're looking to purchase a used item, go to GC and SA "used gear" listings, before searching eBay and Reverb. If it's junk, and much of it is... you can return it to your nearest GC or SA store. No arbitration, no return shipping hassles, and no waiting to get your refund. Also, as of 2019, PayPal is charging sellers 2.9% of the total sale price on all refunds. No exceptions.

Just my two cents on Gibson now versus a few years ago. I got a 2019 Gibson Les Paul Standard 60s style and is an outstanding guitar. Sounds great, plays great, and couldn't find a flaw with it. Additionally, the price was $400 lower new than the Standards in previous years. So I got a Les Paul that is better all-around than the ones in previous years, hundreds of dollars cheaper, and they didn't cut any of the wood out of it.

Ya, well, Kiesel had their share of problems a few years ago and took quite a bashing for it I seem to remember, not feeling very sorry for them over this.

This^ Kiesel is far from being some upstanding, ethical, exemplary company deserving of any sympathy. Karma
Was it you that had that absolute shit show of a guitar they made that was completely FUBAR and they basically told you to go fuck yourself over it ???

Yep.

On top of being basically told to return it or go fuck myself, Jeff posted a video on social media basically calling me out saying something along the lines that it's a shame when customers lie or photo shop pics of their guitar builds and post them on the internet to try and defile a company's good name/reputation.
This.

I can tell you, there were at least 4 of us here chatting PM about buying a Kiesel. They seem to be decent and priced very reasonably. But not after that shitshow customer service experience. Wow.

I thought that new (ex-Levi's) CEO was all about bringing the brand back to 'all about music/guitars'... Guess they're grasping at straws with these inane lawsuits.
