There's a pretty cool 2 part story on kissonline with Eddie Kramer, Gene and Paul talking through the making of Alive! They address what they did in the studio.

Anyone else prefer Alive II?
As a kid in the late 70’s I actually preferred Alive II. I still loved Alive, but I think the difference was Shock Me with the guitar solo, God of Thunder and the drum solo. Both are great imo.

Shock Me rules . He’s tapping before EVH . Did he steal it from Eddie when Gene tried to get Van Halen signed ? The timing lines up

I love the Alive II guitar tones. Alive I sounded like low gain Plexi while Alive II bumped it up a few notches to JMP Master Volume mid gain levels

No. This is from 1975. Start at the 00:33 mark. There it is, plain as day. As far as Ed's tapping origins, here's what happened: Ed's friend Terry Kilgore got it from Harvey Mandel. Then Terry showed it to Ed. Chris Holmes has confirmed this.

Idk what to believe . I’ve watched a lot stories . I do think Ed saw it . But the way Ed did it by using tapping arps as chord progressions is the part I think Ace stole from him

Well, there's the video I posted, and there are others, and Ed didn't start the tapping til 76 or 77 if memory serves. There's no tapping on the Gene Simmons "Zero" demos IIRC, but I'm not positive on that point. I wouldn't be surprised if there was mutual swiping going on. LOL

I enjoy your posts!

Same to you . You post some good stuff . But ya it all seems to trace to Harvey

I like when you post the guitar world stories . Cool videos

Guitar World stories? I dunno what you're referring to. I'm neurologically disabled so sometimes things don't click right away.

Some of things you hate posted before were stories made my guitar world then talked about on YouTube . Basically all your posts are informative and a couple were stories by them
