I agree with JerEvil.

Like I said...two sides to story/Coin.

I was saying there is way too much bad blood for them to even want to play with those guys.
Paul and Gene can do as they want. They don't even owe anyone an explanation. I'd just say, this is what kiss is now, and this is our lineup. take it or leave it.

KISS is a business. There is no upside or money to be made by playing with Peter and Ace, only the potential for failure. KISS not playing makes perfect business sense, and one that I'm sure most people in charge of multi-million dollar businesses would make. That's all there is to it.

Exactly. I stopped listening to pretty much anything they put out after revenge album. No longer a band.
Maybe KISS.INC(trademark) should get inducted. As long as a proceeding of any profits of the KISS trademark can be led into Gene's bank account.
Excuse me but I am off to purchase my Kiss coffin.

To All Our Fans In Regards To The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame:

Out of respect, Ace and Peter's recent statements demand a quick response to you, our fans.

Our intention was to celebrate the entire history of KISS and give credit to all members including long time present members Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer, and additionally Bruce Kulick and Eric Carr all who have made this band what it is, regardless of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame's point of view.

Although KISS has moved forward far longer without them, Ace and Peter are at the very foundation of what we have built and this would all be impossible had they not been a part of it in the beginning.

It is over 13 years since the original lineup has played together in make-up and we believe the memory of those times would not be enhanced. Contrary to claims made through the media we have never refused to play with Ace and Peter.

We have spent 40 years dedicated to building KISS without quitting or wavering as the band has moved forward with huge tours and platinum albums through different important lineups for forty years, to this day.

KISS has always been a band unlike any other. That is why we started KISS. That is why we continue KISS. Being unlike other bands also means making choices and decisions unlike other bands.

This is understandably an emotional situation where there is no way to please everyone.

To bring this to a quick end, we have decided not to play in any line-up and we will focus our attention on celebrating our induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

We are excited and are looking forward to seeing you all on the KISS 40th Anniversary worldwide tour.

Here's Devil's Advocate opinion here...

So first off I love Eric Singer in all his bands and Tommy Thayer ain't no slouch... Singer's been in the band now longer than Ace and Peter together, so he and Tommy are a part of the band's history. According to reports from Gene and Paul the HoF is only inducting the original 4 band members (But whoever owns the right to name is allowed to play in whatever form...) So for the sake of Eric, Eric, Tommy, Bruce, Vinnie and Mark you can say Gene and Paul are making a stand that those guys should be recognized too.
Or you can say if they let Ace and Peter play it negates their whole "it doesn't matter who is in the make up" philosophy...

Personally I'd love to see Gene, Paul, Ace, Peter, Vinnie, Bruce, Eric and Tommy all do a long Kiss Jam. Remember for the Unplugged gig Ace and Peter came out for a few songs, Ace and Bruce traded solos... It was awesome! Do a super long rendition of RnR All Nite and let Ace take the first live solo, let Bruce take the 2nd and then let Vinnie shred another couple bars, have Eric and Peter play together with Carr's costume or his tank drum kit somewhere on stage...

Sorry, I was having another Kiss Wet Dream where there wasn't bad blood anywhere

I am a fan of the original line up....but doing some songs with everyone that was ever in KISS would be pretty damn cool.

I think a lot of us only have the bad taste because Tommy and Eric wear Ace and Peter's makeup. I have no problem with Gene and Paul not wanting to deal with Ace and Peter but at least have the decency not to piss on the memories and magic that gave them their millions. Let Tommy and Eric have new makeup like they did with Carr and Vincent. It's a dis-respectful in equal measure to what Ace and Peter gave to the band as it is to what Eric and Tommy give to the band now.

I will however stretch my good Kiss years to '84 as I did like Lick It Up too.

Why do I get this growing feeling in my gut that we're all being played? I mean, the best way for KISS to get the kind of attention that they desire would be to refuse to play, like they have, which has pissed off a bunch of their old fans, and then suddenly at the last minute work it out and have the original lineup play? Seems to me that would be the best way to hype this whole event and aid ticket sales in their upcoming 40th Anniversary tour.

The only part that might not make sense is that they would possibly have less KISS fans at the event itself than if they announced from the get go that the original lineup would play, but I guess that wouldn't hurt their pocketbooks any, as they aren't collecting any % of the door.

Eh, what does it matter anyways?

Unholy from Revenge is a slammin' track, co-written by VV (of course). All their best material post make up was with VV and Eric Carr IMO. Thrills In The Night is a great song from Animalize, with Mark St. John (RIP).

Funny you mention that one.....we just rocked it out in Jammin this saturday.
Also did Tears are falling. :D

KISS should have done two songs (Nothin' to Lose and Deuce) with Ace and Peter in full makeup. After those songs, Bruce should have come up and done "Unholy" with them. Finally, Eric and Tommy come up (without makeup) and do two of the newer songs "Hell or Hallellujah" or "Modern Day Delilah". Then have everyone come back up and do "Rock and Roll all Night".

I can't stand Vinnie Vincent but they could do "Lick it Up" as a bonus.

I agree except no makeup for anyone.

I was never a huge fan of KISS, but the best live show I've ever seen was the KISS reunion concert back in '96 in Cleveland. Going back through their discography, I think they should have just ended KISS as a band back when Peter and Ace left. Sure, they did the gay 80's hair band thing... :jerkit: They should have changed the band name to 'Greedy Boys' or whatever, and played nothing but new songs from that point on.

They're inducting KISS - not KISS revisited. Gene, Paul, Ace, and Peter are KISS. The fact that the RRHOF has asked for the original members is the most positive thing I've ever heard from the institution so-far. Anything less than the original lineup while the original members are still alive is unacceptable, so I guess Gene made the right decision.

Jesus, just get through one or two songs. Only people hurt by this is the fans.

Wait until Queensryche gets inducted - just sad.

That may be the funniest thing I've read all day!

Thank you, Sir.

No offense to people who were inspired by them but KISS has always been a joke to me. I'm 44 so I also grew up in the middle of the KISS era but I was never inspired to play or write music because of them. The only thing that I have any respect for when it comes to these guys is their hard work ethic and genius marketing. Musically for me and my tastes they are lame and I like all kinds of music from simple pop tunes to complicated styles music. I just can't for the life of me find anything musically or artistically inspiring about their music. But like I always say to each his own.

Over the years I've also come to see especially Gene and Paul as deplorable greedy assholes who think way too much of themselves. Ace has simply fucked his life up with drugs and booze. The only one I feel any sympathy for is Peter.

So IMHO... I couldn't give a fuck whether they play or not since it would be waste of time.

I'll +10 that one as that sums it up for me too.
Never liked KISS's "music" and still can't.
Besides, it was never about music with KISS, it's all about the show. Kudo's to them for that.
But I'm about rock MUSIC not just a rock show. :)
MUSIC FIRST...show second.

There is no denying Ace's influence as a player or Kiss' music selling in (probably) the hundreds of millions by now...4 guys from NY that found a way to make it despite the odds, you gotta respect that...it's an American success story...you may not like the music, but there's no denying that it resonated with the public for a long time.
